Question:
I spoke to a debt collector (Midland) today on debts that are largely past the SOL. I disputed the amount on the debts, but did state that I recognized the accounts. DId I screw up? No payments or arrangements were made.
I wouldn't think so.
That's great news Shogun...you're greatly helping me out
I would not worry. I did the same thing a month ago, and I was told by forum members that it would not reset the SOL. I then dove in deeper with research, and everything pointed to it not resetting the SOL. You should be fine.
Good luck.
That's great...thank you both. I'm 2 years from 90% of my collections falling off of my CR. I would like to take care of them sooner, but I've decided I"m filing chapter 7 if someone else takes me to court.
It goes on a state by state rule as far as resetting the SOL. Most of the time, it's bringing the debt back to current. Others, it's making a payment or agreeing to make a payment. I always refer to the debt as "alleged". Kind of an innocent until proven guilty type of thing. I've paid them without ever acknowledging the debt was mine. I would say, well,,, I'm not sure this is mine, I don't remember it exactly, but if it will make it better, I'll pay if you'll delete.
