I have some experience in this field. I had RJM acquisitons coming after me for a $14 dollar debt that I had paid so long ago I no longer had records of it. It was for a book club and the bill never went to collections in the first place.
I disputed it until I was blue in the face and yet thanks to experian the debt always came back verifed. Of course RJM was always offering me special deals to get me to pay. Even though it was only $14 I did not want to pay it again as I already had I just could not prove it.
Well I did my research and come to find out good Ole RJM Acquisitons is not licensed to practice business in my state. I filed a complaint with my states attorney general and like magic the entry was deleted from my credit report.
So another question on this. I sent out my letters yesterday. So hopefully I will see some deletions soon.
Many of these are collections I had previously paid and have a 0 balance, so I doubt they will reappear. However, there are a couple with small balances that I'm sure the CA will sell to another CA licensed in my state. Will the new CA be able to automatically place these on my credit? Or will they send a letter to me first saying they are collecting the debt?
Thanks!
A Question on this - a bunch of my student loans that I rehabbed are showing 0 but still 120 days late (Nelnet and EdFinancial), they were then transferred back to Direct Loans and are in good standing, I believe. Nelnet and EdFinancial are not licensed to do business in Utah - does this apply to them? I figure since they are showing 0 balance, maybe this will work with them? Since they really have no reason to care about the accounts anymore since they have been current over a year and sent back to the lender? Or is this just wishful thinking?
Thanks!
