How important is auto score?

I've had one car loan on a used car around 10 years ago from a mom and pop place. It was paid on time and paid off so no issue but it never showed up on my credit reports.

I'm in the market now for a used car, not very expensive. Would it be beneficial enough to maybe finance part of it to build car credit? 740 credit score, not perfect but good overall

The score itself isn't as important as showing you can make substantial payments over a long period of time. If you have a mortgage, it'd probably be negligible. I have a flawless auto loan history and my scores are lower than my fico8s

Do you have any other loan history (student, mortgage, etc.)? If you're planning to pay cash for the car anyway, a loan may or may not be beneficial in this case. Especially if it's an older car with higher mileage, which will equate to a higher interest rate. If it's a newer used car, then it may be worth looking into. Otherwise, you can save it for another time / newer vehicle.
