Hi Everyone. I need someone to better explain me with what just happened. So, after my chap 7 discharged on 03/20/2020, I applied for Amex and would immediately denied without pulling any credit report but when I tried today, I got denied but they also pull TU. What does this mean? Thanks in advance.
If you burned Amex, they put you on a blacklist for a widely varying length of time. For some, it's a few years. For others, it's just about forever. Normally, when you are on the Amex blacklist, if you complete an app, it will be instantly denied with no credit pull. This is not necessarily a hard and fast rule, but the vast majority of people on the blacklist will experience this with no credit report pulled.
Others might be able to offer more detailed info.

It wasn't a hard pull, was it?
Pretty sure Amex is doing EX/TU soft pulls for new apps, with a hard pull if you accept. Your letter should have the reason for denial.

Thanks for the quick replies. I can't tell if it was soft or hard pull. When I did that, I got a notification from my capitalone that there was an inquiry from Amex. Also, the Amex said I should recieve a letter in the mail in 7-10 day.
@Yasselife wrote:@Amiashu12 Sounds like it was a hard pull.
It does sound like that.
I wonder if Amex's apply with confidence isn't universal for all apps, you have to check prior to applying to make sure the language indicates you're applying under "apply with confidence" no hard pull.

I think the consensus is 5 1/2 years after BK before Amex will approve. I got a BCP card with a $30K limit at 6 years post BK. The consensus is you can't get a CLI until the BK is gone.
@Amiashu12If you burned AMEX. Only way back in is pay them back and you'll recieve an invite for the Optima card. If not paid. Men/Women will be on Mars. If they werent burned. 5 yrs and 1 month. I got in after 6yrs 1 month. Denied the first time. My only denial since BK.
I waited a year because I opened too many new checking accounts. 1 with NFCU. Got the BCP for $1000 and yes no CLI's until BK falls off.

This is correct. I believe it's approximately 6 years post discharge to be approved for AMEX if you did not burn them in bk. If burned, you must make them whole as you'll most likely be on their internal blacklist for many, many, years to come. The word forever comes to mind. lol... but there are data points on MF where members have been (for reasons unknown) let back in after 5 years, 7 years, 10 years. YMMV...
