Hi! I'm new here and I would like help rebuilding my credit. Most of my credit score are due to 2 repos (1 is paid off recently but I need to get them to remove it) student loans and medical bills. Scores are:
experian- 601
equifax- 528
transunion- 484
I'm on a fixed income- SSDI but I am working on getting a job right now.
i would like to raise them to the 650s-700s so I can get a house, car, and etc eventually. I'm also a single mama.
How can I do it?
Plus- I just got Captial One secured credit card and I plan to do $200 deposit and use it so I can rebuild my credit. Should I file bankruptcy and start fresh? Can I keep my secured card?

Sorry for your current situation, but it would help if I knew what kind of work you did before your qualified for government disability benefits, and what type of work you are looking for that won't jeopardize those benefits.
Obviously income is needed to deal with issues such as raising kids, buying/renting shelter, et al. One reason I ask is that you also posted in the bankruptcy section this same note and I'd like to have a better understanding of your income and obligations to deal with your current goals rather than long term such as buying a house.
I was a nanny and IT tech before I fell ill. I'm currently looking for a nanny job or IT tech job so we can get back on our feet. I currently live wit my mom right now so rent or anything like that isn't an issue.
I do not have any credit cards. I would love to find a way to be able to become stable in my credit, fixed income or not. ☺️ because once I get a job, I want to start saving up for my long term goals.
I've never filed BK, but I have overcome a mountain of debt due to unfortunate circumstances in my life. It just takes hard work and willpower.
I can't tell you if you should file or not...and I don't think anyone else will be able to either without seeing more information on your situation. And not to get too personal, but the more information you give the better answers you'll get.
How much debt do you owe? Break it down too please...student loan, medical, credit card, car loan, etc.
How much do you earn from SSDI? What is the nature of your disability or what type of work are you able to do...and how many hours per week can you work?
How many kids do you have and what are their ages? Do you get child support for any of them, and if so which ones so we'll know how much longer you'll get the child support?
What are your current bills, rent, utilities, car payment, etc.?
Like I said, don't want to get too personal...but with more information you'll get better answers.
Good luck!

You would need to send GW letters to the reporting entity to ask that a derog COed account be removed, its tough to get them to do it and it could take years but it doesnt mean you dont try. http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Rebuilding-Your-Credit/GW-letter-Q-amp-A-Examples-and-GW-Success-Stories/td-p/1573680
For medical debt:
1. Call the OC and ask that they recall the collection in exchange for full payment
2. Send the reporting CA a PFD offer
3. Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help
Scores are:
experian- 601
equifax- 528
transunion- 484
I'm on a fixed income- SSDI but I am working on getting a job right now. I would not file a BK, up to 2 months of SS benefits are exempt from levies if someone gets a judgment. I would not mix work income in the same account that SSDI is deposited into. You would most likely have to bring this to the banks attention if someone were to attempt to levy your bank account. SSI cannot be levied ever even by the govt itself.

How can I do it? You want at minimum over the next 6 months 3 bankcards and 1 store card, the store card can be the last one. Its good you have already started with the Cap-1 and keep working on getting your derogs taken care of. Good luck and welcome to the My Fico family ![]()

You are not in a typical rebuild situation in my opinion, and frankly I'm not sure an online forum will be able to help that much.
Because your income now consists of SSDI should you go back to work you are going to lose that and from what you said you have a child to consider too. There are other programs that can offer you assistance as far as childcare, food, rental subsities and healthcare, but you are starting from way behind the 8-ball and I'm not talking about your debts exclusively - you should be judgement proof as far as those.
I applaud your desire to improve your situation, but I would suggest you get professional advice and assistance.

As said we need more info to give you better answers.
As far as your secured card, Capital One will close the account if you file.
Ok- I'm gonna try and answer as best as I can. I earn $956 a month for SSDI. I'm deaf so I qualify for it but I fell ill for several months that forced me not to work. Now I'm fine and capable to go back to work but it's difficult especially with a hearing loss but I'm not letting that stop me
I can work any jobs and I'm going to accept any job offers at this moment because I need to support myself and my daughter. Full time or part time is fine. I do get WIC and food stamps. When I go back to work, I will be able to qualify for childcare assistance. I know what the SSDI's limitations are and I'm working with a program called Ticket to Work for getting a job and keeping my benefits.
I owe $16,259. $7860 is student loans but I'm paying that back at the mininum payment every month and I know that it's not gonna be excluded and I'm not worrying about that. I am going back to school so I will be able to defer that for a bit.
$8,399 is the remaining balance. One of the repos (CarMax)- which is $1,126.
The only State of MD debt I owe is $534.
Then the rest are medical bills. Ranging from $35-$3261.
I might have a bit more but they aren't on my credit file right now so I don't know what to do with these.
My daughter is 16 months old. No child support. She's an unique case...so I'm on my own.
I'm not paying rent right now. I live with my mom and grandparents with my daughter.

You said you "might have a bit more but they aren't on my credit file right now so I don't now what do with these"? By that do you mean that the debts aren't showing up on your credit report? I think the first thing you need to do is to figure out exactly what you owe...everything. Whether or not it's showing up on a credit report doesn't matter, if you borrowed the money or owe the money then you should consider it debt. Write it all down. You have to know your full financial picture before you can really start to work on it.
You have a great attitude about work, which is a very good thing. A lot of people say they can't work more, they can't do this or that. People can find a way to work and pay what they want to...most of the time. A lot of people really just don't want to pay their debts.
You have student loans and you also said you're going back to school. What did you go to school for, and what are you going to school for in the future? If this will enable you to make more money that's great.
You said you don't have rent right now...that is definitely awesome! You will have more money to help get you out of debt. Stay rent free as long as you can...or until you're in fiancial situation to rent or own your own place.
I would recommend that you follow the Dave Ramsey plan. He has a very easy, step by step plan for getting people out of debt..and he's been very successful with it. He has a radio show, website, and many books on this subject.
I don't think you're anywhere close to needing to file bankruptcy. Only $8,399 of your debt is bankruptable...the rest is student loans, so I definitely think you can work hard and be frugal and get out of debt.
If I were you I would continue with the Ticket to Work plan, I don't even know what that is other than what you descibed but it sounds like they might be able to help you, and work hard to pay off that debt as quickly as possible. You have a very positive attitude and that goes a long way in getting out of debt!
Good luck!
Fox
