To do or not to do

I am considering bancruptcy.

Half of my debt is on my wife's (soon to be ex) CCs. It's my debt and I am paying for everything, mostly.

about $50K total.

Is it illegal to transfer her debt back to my credit card and then file for bankcrupcy?
I obviously don't want to file for bancruptcy for her as well. She is not responsible for this debt, for the most  part.

I read somewhere that it's fraud to transfer and then file for bancruptcy. I also read that if it's over 90 days then I can file for bancrupcy.

Thank you

Re: To do or not to do

I dont think you can do that.

All the debt shows on her reports now.  She could try to dispute as "not the owner of this account" online but who knows if it will work, most likely not.

Sure you can. Just wait 6 months and make consistant monthly payments. That at least shows you didn't have any intent of filing BK. (In theory)

Still not exactly ethical. But you asked a question and I answered it.

You can do it. And if The OP transfers it to his cards it will no longer show on her reports. And if she disputes it will all come back as verified. The OP's DW can file for identity theft and get the OP for credit card fraud.
