2 quick questions - Capital One

Cap 1 card is 10 days from 6 months old .when I got it it didn't mention credit steps like in the past .do you still get a small cli automatically with them?

Also they use to approve a 2nd card after 6 months .I'd love a Walmart Mc even if the limit was small I hear they can grow reasonably. Thanks

If your card was not enrolled or approved under the Credit Steps program, then no it won't automatically receive a CLI. You'd likely have to submit a request for it in the event you don't see one in the next couple of weeks.  FWIW, it appears the Credit Steps program is no longer around.

As far as the Walmart Card, you can gauge the odds by using the pre-qualification tool.  Keep in mind, depending on your overall profile and eligibility, you may be offered the store card if they can't approve you for the MC version.

I don't know anything about 'credit steps,' but just wanted to point out that getting CLIs from Cap1 in general is like pulling teeth! Look around these boards and you'll see plenty of comments/complaints about that.

Personally, I have three cards with them (two Quicksilvers and Walmart Rewards), and haven't had a CLI in years. I mean YEARS. I'm getting ready to close at least one of the QS cards because of this--their limits are very low (for me), at $4,000 and $4,500--I don't use them much because, with such low limits, any real use (like for a refrigerator) would push their utilization rate WAY UP. My WM MC's limit has been stuck at $10,000 since Cap1 acquired it 3 years ago. Every CLI request on each card has been denied for one dumb reason or another. So just a heads-up that getting a card from Cap1 is one thing, ever seeing its limit grow is quite another!

Re: 2 quick questions - Capital One

Yes sir thanks for the info .I've been dealing with them on and off since 1992  their the most conservative bank I've ever dealt with .I've always got 200 increase on the 6th statement .I just wondered what happened to the credit step program . I'd like to get a few card that at least don't have 100.00 annual fees and 6.95 monthly fees even if it's smaller limit cards .thanks

The Capital One Walmart MC was my first card after an auto loan since my file was cleaned completely and I started over, with no credit history.

I received an automatic $250 cli after 6 mo.s of ontime payments using 30% to 75% of the $500 sl each month and pif (paid in full).

I then called after the auto cli requesting a higher limit and was declined. Reasons: too soon since last increase / account is on an automated system.

Hopefully the automated increases stay consistent. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

That's my experience with the C1 Walmart MC you seek, so far.

If you need other options that don't do a hp and grow every 6 months. The Petal 1 card did a sp with a sl of $500, but required to be linked to an account via plaid.

I'm due for an auto cli next month with that one. There's no rewards or bonuses, but it helps with Utilization. I have my streaming app subscriptions on it.

There was no mention of Credit Steps anywhere I could find on Capital One's website when I applied for my Platinum, last May. A lot of people talked about it, including some people who were enrolled in the program in 2020, but I'm pretty sure it was dead and gone by the time I applied. It had been replaced by this simple statement on the card page: "Automatic Credit Line Reviews: Be automatically considered for a higher credit line in as little as 6 months."

@Anonymous, don't get your hopes up. I requested a CLI in December, and was shot down, even though I had gone from unscoreable to (FICO 8) scores in the mid 700s. I was able to use the upgrade link to change it to a Quicksilver, but it's still stuck at the $300 SL... even though I now have a second card, with credit limit more than 50 times higher.
