Re: 2 quick questions - Capital One

Right after BK discharge, a couple days later, I went to Cap One prequal and was offered a Platinum or a QS1. I chose QS1 and was instantly approved for $3. Here is the answer to the six month question re: the WM Mastercard. I apped for that one about a month after I got approved for the QS1 and got an immediate approval, but only for $1k. The point here is I don't think you have to wait six months to app for the WM card.

BK7 Discharged 08/2021 Household Income 95k
Scores: Fico9 Equifax 663 | TU 694 | Experian 628 Vantage 3.0 TU 737 | EQ 726
Cards:
Tri-CU $3k
Capital One Quicksilver One $3K
Mercury Master Card $3.3k
Upgrade Visa $10k
NFCU Visa Platinum $2000
Alphaeon Card $3600
Dell Preferred $4500
WM Mastercard $1000
Credit One AMEX $1000
Kohl's $800
Ollo Mastercard $2000
Target Red Card $1200
Cabela's Mastercard $3k

Cap 1 card is 10 days from 6 months old .when I got it it didn't mention credit steps like in the past .do you still get a small cli automatically with them?

Also they use to approve a 2nd card after 6 months .I'd love a Walmart Mc even if the limit was small I hear they can grow reasonably. Thanks

I don't know anything about 'credit steps,' but just wanted to point out that getting CLIs from Cap1 in general is like pulling teeth! Look around these boards and you'll see plenty of comments/complaints about that.

Personally, I have three cards with them (two Quicksilvers and Walmart Rewards), and haven't had a CLI in years. I mean YEARS. I'm getting ready to close at least one of the QS cards because of this--their limits are very low (for me), at $4,000 and $4,500--I don't use them much because, with such low limits, any real use (like for a refrigerator) would push their utilization rate WAY UP. My WM MC's limit has been stuck at $10,000 since Cap1 acquired it 3 years ago. Every CLI request on each card has been denied for one dumb reason or another. So just a heads-up that getting a card from Cap1 is one thing, ever seeing its limit grow is quite another!

If you have 2 QS cards, you should be able to combine them into one with a better limit rather than just closing one. Keeps UTIL the same.

@SouthernCredit - Capital One does not combine limits and/or accounts. They haven't done so in several years. At one point that used to be a feature, but it has been discontinued.

@FinStar I wasn't aware they discontinued that. My Venture One is where it is now from account combinations, and it wasn't that long ago (less than 2 years).

The practice/feature ended in February 2019.

While I am not disputing what you're saying, I did combine my QS1 and Venture 1 May 2019. I'm sorry to hear they've discontinued that practice. It was useful for combining bucketed cards.

It was great while it lasted. Maybe at some point in the future, they'll bring it back. But, it's anyone's guess if they ever will. I was able to combine some of mine into one when the feature was still available.
