Just out of curiosity I did Capital One's pre-qual form.
I currently have a QS which I have worked up to 2300 over 4-5 yrs, and the Platinum MC @ 2250 -- great payment record on both.
My FICO TU is between 708-716
When I pre-qualed, they showed the Venture (not interested in Travel rewards, though it has slightly less interest) and another QS card, which might be interesting.
Last I tried this I opened chat with a CS agent and they would not verify if a HP is required to Apply even though I am "pre-qualified."
They could only feed me a blanket statement that "It may adversely affect your credit score" and they could not answer the SP/HP specific question, and that I would need to call an Analyst for that.
Both cards did have an "Apply" button and buried in the Terms that a credit check could be performed.
What's the deal? Is it a SP or HP to Apply, usually?
Thanks for any help.
Cap 1 is a definite HP ! even if you're prequal'd

Always a HP to apply, and always to all 3 bureaus - the dreaded "Capital One Triple Pull", lol
While it won't tell you the SL until you actually apply, you CAN get an idea based on the APR offered, which is disclosed in the pre-qual. What APR did they offer for your QS?
3 HP's when you apply, 1 on each bureau.
Hey TygerHawke
Thanks for the reply.
Prequals:
The Venture One Rewards-
0% intro APR for 12 months; 17.24% variable APR after that
The Quicksilver Rewards -
0% intro APR for 9 months; 18.24% variable APR after that
---
My current QS is 15.15%
My current Platinum MC is 13.15%
**bleep**, those are my lowest cards. Had no idea.
Thank you @tussking , @elim @TygerHawke !!!
3 bureau INQ --- ouch, no way... still supposed to be gardening.
Sometimes I forget the basics, don't know why. haha.. cheers
18.24% is mid-range for the QS, so I wouldn't expect miracles on the SL or step out of the garden for it - but the advantage here is if you decide to pull the trigger, you'll be able to add whatever you get to your existing QS in 6 months - more if you get a CLI on the new card in 2 months
13.24 on the other hand? when I saw that last week I was like "run, don't walk for the nearest garden exit"
details on my Cap One experience can be found in the link in my sig
Now that is interesting TygerHawke!!!
I think once a few INQs drop I could go for that. My QS has grown but it's been slow. (Seeing the 15.15% interest on the card now too, it's a decent card and worth the effort).
After seeing people around with multiple QS's, it's nice to see how it works.
I appreciate the wisdom, thank you again!
Anytime - Capital One is my best friend right now, but of course YMMV
Good luck!
