Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
@Taurus22 wrote:You know, that was honestly my same thought process, as checking accounts generally use SP by banks. And it made no sense why they would have the credit card tied together with the checking account if you had to "build a relationship" with the bank.
But I was basing that off the conversation I had with her. Maybe she was incompetent?
I have read, however, if you do go the checking acct/with credit app combo, they will NOT allow checking account with Sage/ARS on ice. But then, the credit card app solo works better with them on ice. So not sure how that all ties together. The Cash+ card is so sexy....why does US bank have to be such a PITA.
Honestly I think best practice is to pull those reports and make sure the info is correct before applying rather than freezing them and trying to manipulate the outcome of the app. It’s backfired before and it makes sense if you think about it — what is it that you’re trying to hide from them?
US Bank got hit hard by the recession... I was one of their 2006 credit customers that had to burn them in 2010 for crap that happened in 2009. It’s understandable that they are tighter with their lending practices now.
@Saeren
That's a good point. Since I only have a 6 year pristine credit history, surely there can't be anything negative. But when you read these posts about people being denied due to:
Lack of time at current residence - when they lived there 11+ years...
Lack of history with a particular phone provider - when they've been with one provider over 20 years...
or Lack of sufficient credit history - when they've had 22 years of credit history with 800 FICO, etc
...and US Bank actually uses and puts stock into these information resources.
It's scary for one thing....and flawed for another. And denies worthy people due to inaccuracies.

Well there have been far more approvals lately than denials so maybe their dependence on those alternate sources has lightened up. Most of the denials that have happened were successfully recon’d.
Obviously its up to you. I think the best way to go is Gold checking with all bureaus unfrozen and that’s the way I intend to apply when my EX (they pull EX here) hits 700-720 either this year or next.

I would recommend paying five dollars to sign up for Experian to have that covered. Sometimes they don’t pull the app immediately when you deal with banks that do manual reviews frequently like US Bank.
Absolutely if you have a prequalification use it it gives an advantage
If you download the Experian app, you can get a free 7 day trial of CreditWorks Premium by just selecting credit reports and picking Equifax or TransUnion.
The monthly charge goes from $24.95 signed up through the website down to $19.95 signed up on the app if you actually decide to keep it too.
I use the app because CreditWorks Basic comes with free monthly EX FICO8 and monitoring (with free refreshes when you get an alert like I did today when some accounts showed paid).
