The first time that I called to combine limits over the summer, the rep told me that they couldn't do that. I insisted that she transfer me to someone else because I knew that they did under the right circumstances. She put me on hold for awhile, then came back and appologized and said that she would need to transfer me to the credit limit team in order to do that.
If you got the right people and they just said no, then I'm not sure what happened?
I saw in another thread where you mentioned that right after canceling your card, the rep mentioned that you could sign up for another one right there in that call since you already canceled. I wonder if that answers my question here as to how long I need to wait?
I'm not terribly patient, so I may try tomorrow and see what happens.

Website had a banner it will stay on the site for a year. Still shows a credit line and all like it wasnt clsoed. We'll see once it updates. Still open on Wallethub. But Snailunion is always last.
To answer my own question, it appears as though you can probably apply right away.
I canceled the card on Sunday, and just applied for and was approved for another Discover It card. The pre-qualify site also said I'd get the cash back match and 14 months of 0% interest, so hopefully my packet says the same when it arrives!
