Fourteen years ago OP defaulted on a loan from BoA. Most of you say that BoA is JUSTIFIED in blacklisting OP.
Fourteen years ago the biggest disaster in your life was getting a zit on your lip 2 days beore prom night.
Seven years ago, how much money did BoA get from Tarp?
Exactly! Anyone who feels sorry for these big lenders! needs to rethink their position!

Good Point about the Tarp money. Funny how that works, huh? Your taxes were good enough to bail them out but heaven forbid they do you a favor. I get the blacklist thing on their part to an extent, but you brought a new perspective to it.
OP I understand how you feel...my own last denial was for the AAA Visa Signature card last summer. ![]()
I applied after a good run of approvals, but the letter stated I was denied due to two 'baddies' that were still reporting on my CRs (at that time). The baddies were not related to BoA.
At the time I was looking for a good cash back card for travel expenses... not too long after my denial I was directed to the Sam's Club MasterCard which I was approved for (I got the Sam's Membership just to get the card) and I haven't looked back. At first I figured I would earn enough extra cash back over a 2% card to justify the membership fee, but I quickly realized that I was able to offset the fee with in-club savings, so the 3% cash back on travel and restaurant charges is pure savings. It didn't take me long to realize I had actually ended up in a better place than I would have been had I been approved for the AAA card. (Note that the new Costco Visa has a similar rewards structure, but for me Synchrony is an easier nut to crack than Citi).
That being said, not all lenders are for everybody... I'm likely 'forever' blacklisted with Barclays over an account that hasn't reported to the credit bureaus for years, but I don't sweat it - it is what it is. When I applied for their Sallie Mae last year, they didn't even pull my credit (which I'm thankful for). The circumstances of the old account no longer reflect my situation, but that doesn't matter... at that time I was unable to keep my end of the deal, and they haven't forgotten.
As I found out after my own denial last year, it indeed sucks to be denied, but there are very few cards that have benefits you won't be able to find elsewhere. I really wanted Sallie Mae, but I ended up with a BCP which for me comes out about the same (even after the AF). I also wanted the AAA Visa, but I ended up with the Sam's Club MC, which I have ended up liking even more than I would the BoA/AAA account.
With a little luck and some research on here, you'll be able to find a card that gives you the benefits you want/need and this denial won't even be a second thought. ![]()

I figured try again now that my score is better and cleaner record, but was denied again! Called the same senior credit analyst for reason and THIS time I was told due to old charge-off with them!
I asked for more info and to my surprise it was from 2002! Even though it was paid way back but still shows in their system as charge-off...
Only wish I knew they would hold a grudge 14 years later so I wouldn't waste HP on them! What a ridiculous bank!
If you burned them then you burned them. It doesn't make them ridiculous, just you being mad at them for such. You've been here almost 2 years and certainly by now have read posters stating some banks took nearly 20 years for them to get back in, and even then the rope is short.
For a bank to hold a grudge over 14+ years is ridiculous!
I don't even remember howmuch it was, but I know for sure they got paid whatever it was! And for any bank to be that unsecure... well then, they can go do something else!!!
If YOU had paid them "whatever it was" then you'd NOT have an internal "black list". Now, if they did charge it off then yes, they got paid, but NOT 100 cents on the dollar. if YOU settled this then for what reason they show you as a charge off? Did you make arrangements to pay this debt in full with BOA and thet are not noting it?
They are not unsecure (that's funny to be honest!). They obviously see something in your profile they don't like and fell back on the fact that, in their eyes and records, you burned them.

later on down the road now would you ? They gave you reason why , so just move on .
Just for the record they did get their money back plus high interest. I never declared BK, so there was no burning.
I read how much BoA sucks with all their practices, personal banking and CCs. But never thought they would be this ridiculous!
I don't care for them one bit, just wish they would have told me wait 50 years before you reapply not 6mo.
I was in the same predicament with other banks too, like CapOne and Discover but in banking industry after 10 years is ridiculous to hold a grudge!
Please explain. IF they got their money back plus high interest then why did you state it showed on your CR as a charge off? Are you saying you paid this debt to a CA?

Have to disagree with u. He did not burn them. It was a PAID acct. B of A needs to lighten up a bit. By the way I had the same issue and got a new card with them 3 yrs later. They are not uniformly treating everyone the same way.
He previously stated it showed on his CR as a charge off. So it sounds like if he indeed paid this debt in full it would have been to a CA., not BOA.
Either way it does not matter. Enough time has gone by that they need to let this go. There is a reason why Bof A is not very popular on this and other forums!. If it was not for the AK Air Visa I would have nothing further to do with them. I am now going to apply for the Virgin America VISA and hope that when the merger is completed it will PC into an AK Air VISA giving me the same benefit that is now offered on that card. (Similar to what is happening at Costco.) Hopefully this back door method will work.
