Re: AAA CC

Well the US Bank/ACG structure is trash for me, it’s useless really imo. Nice padding, nice CL, but useless to me. There are three different versions of the US Bank AAA card. You’ve got the Dollars, the Dollars Plus, and the Dollars Gas Rebate version.

The Dollars version, you get one percent on everything, but it’s unlimited they say. Wow, Lol. The Dollars Plus has the 3/2/1 structure with 3% being AAA items and supposedly some travel, the 2% being gas stations, grocery store, and drugstore and 1% for everything else.

Now get ready for a laugh. The Gas Rebate version gives you 5% for gas......(wait for it).... but it’s capped at 2% of your total purchases! So if all you use it just for gas, it’s going to be a 2% gas card. If you want that 5%, you got to do a lot of non-category spend at 0% CB. Have you ever heard of such?

I guess if you have a lot of non-category spend and you don’t have a 1.5% or 2% card, maybe you could put the additional spend there w/o CB, so that you can have enough spend to be able to get some of the 5% on gas, but good luck! To me, it renders it a 2% gas card.

So, the Dollars is a 1% card and the Dollars Plus adds gas, grocery, drugstore at 2% (and 3% on AAA items and some travel), and the gas rebate is a 2% gas card, unless you want to waste a lot of noncategory spend.

Family member who had been using the Dollars had been using it thinking they were getting 2% on everything when they were really getting 1% on everything.

So I’m not a big fan, but maybe for some people it would be a good fit. Personally I would just go for a 2% card.

Plus AAA sells car insurance. I was reading something somewhere. I don’t know whether it’s true or not and I can’t recall the source, but it indicated that AAA always sends a representative to oppose any speed limit increases, even in situations where not raising the speed limit would increase the risk to safety. Reason being, the more tickets, the higher the premiums and therefore the higher the profits. Again don’t take this as a statement of fact because I cannot remember the source but made me rethink my AAA membership.

Re: AAA CC

@Anonymous That's pretty good info on US Bank.

Last time I took a trip, AAA gave me the biggest discount for hotel and rental. So its not that bad if you use their discounts!

I've been chasing this card ever since I got AAA membership! I had 0 inquiry this time compare to few, five years ago! They are probably looking at my file with magnifying glass... 🔍👀

Re: AAA CC

@CYBERSAMThat’s good to know. I have not used it for the travel portion or rental. How do you access those benefits? EDIT: so you got this benefit from AAA membership, not from the card?

For everyone's general knowledge: US Bank and AAA‘s joint venture created an entity known as ACG who actually issues the USB version of the card. The only thing that sucks is US bank/Elan takes into account any CLs on this ACG card, so it limits your overall TCL with US Bank/Elan. 🤬
