AMEX 3X Denied

Today was the day!  Was supposed to be my third 3X CLI in a row on my BCE...  It was not.

I am at 9k, requested 27k.  Received a 7-10 day message, got a response within an hour- Insufficient income I think.  Which makes sense.  Sucks.

Did I mess up by requesting a limit more than half my stated income?  I feel like that's a thing.

How do I proceed next time?

I will be happy with any 10k+.  I wouldn't request another CLI if I get to 20k.

Do I start slow and request a little?

If half of stated income is a thing with AMEX, should I try for 25k next time?  Should I aim a little lower like 20k? or a lot lower 15k?

Re: AMEX 3X Denied

If it's been denied, you have to wait (90 days I think) regardless of the reason.

If income is the reason, next time ask  in lower increments.

There is no percentage set in stone, but even if you go by 50%, there should be enough use to support increase.

Amex hasn't been handing those like they used to. Pick something reasonable like $5000 per request and go from there.

Something similar happened to my co-worker recently, he waited a litlte bit over 90 days and tried again for a smaller increase and was approved instantly.
