AMEX Application Strategy

I am planning on applying for two AMEX cards soon (Bonvoy Brilliant and Platinum Card). Is there a specific order I should submit apps in to avoid excessive HPs?

Nope, apply in whatever order you want. Underwriting for the Bonvoy would likely be stricter than the Platinum which may help set your comfort level as to which to apply for first (I'd do Bonvoy first if it were me but I'm not you ;-)

You should apply for the Bonvoy card first IMHO, and then wait until a week after approval for the Platinum.

If you have no Amex cards presently, there will probably be 1 or 2 HP's for the Bonvoy card, and then none for the Platinum.

If you have an Amex card presently, there will probably be no HP's at all for either card.

Re: AMEX Application Strategy

I appreciate the responses. Sounds like I'll be going for the Bonvoy first then! I hope to have good news to post in the "Approvals" board in a couple weeks.

Bear in mind that the charge cards are easier to get than the credit cards. So if you get turned down for the Bonvoy you might still have a chance at the Platinum.

And if you just want to improve your odds of getting something, you could apply for the Platinum first.

There's apply with confidence now, which means no HP unless you're approved and accept the offer:

first time customer should expect Exp + TU on first app now

you might be HP'd again if you app really shortly after the first one

Good to know about the SP prior to acceptance. My time on this site has made me reevalute how I apply for cards (in the best possible way). I also want to apply for the CSP, so that'll be my first app before I mess with Amex.

I'm expecting a big jump in scores due to my bringing my util down from 98% to ~35%. The end goal is to get it down to <8%.
