Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

I am still on their "blacklist" I included them in my bankruptcy discharged 2005. My hubby managed to get a card with them and tried to add me as an AU they would not 😒So I am going to assume I will for be on the blacklist forever.

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

JNBMOM,

that is an interesting data point. Did they tell you why they wouldn’t add you? Was your credit very bad at the time? Very curious about that.

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

The other thing is his card says member since "01". I thought we both had cards with them included in our BK but apparently his must have been an AU on mine but I can't be sure that was a while back?

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

Hi everyone, newbie here but just wanted to share my Amex experience with you. Has just posted a similar topic yesterday “odd experience w Amex”. Sorry if this is lengthy, but it’s worth noting.
Data Points:
was Amex member 2001-2009.
BK discharged 2009, included Amex
Credit had been near perfect until then, 790ish
2010 was able to get two unsecured CAP1 cards and have been using responsibly since
2011 husband tried to add me as an AU on his Amex and they cited previous relationship with them (too soon I guess)
Years go buy where I hadn’t tried to get in w Amex but was able to get Sapphire Reserve last year via recon. Fast fwd to 2018, Amex added me as AU and also approved me on cold app for 20k a week apart. (see story below)
Originally the member since says 2018, but online account says 2001. I know now that they stop back dating to credit bureaus so the 2001 date useless.
All in all I thought they’d forgotten but really they hadn’t.
Currently 733-745 credit score
Utilization ranges from 12-32% each month
Balances paid off this week.

“So..I was approved for the new Hilton Ascend card yesterday for 20k limit. Within 24hr I decided that I wanted to upgrade to the Aspire (for diamond status) instead so I called in about it, hoping to not do a new application or HP. I was advised that I needed to put in a new application and can cancel the Ascend afterwards. I figured at this point no harm as I was told that better to do that now before I activated the Ascend, otherwise I’d have to wait 13months from when the account was opened.
Long story short, the phone application was denied and I was transferred to a new member team rep to manually review. The rep referenced “previous Amex acct closed w a balance.”
Here’s my background: BK in 2009 that included Amex. I’ve read the forums about blacklist etc. Couldn’t be added as an AU in 2011. But was able to do so this year so I thought maybe they did “forget.” And so I tried my luck and went for the Hilton card independently and was very surprised w the approval.
When the phone rep cited their policy about not issuing cards to people w previous negatives w Amex, she didn’t address the fact that I was approved just a day ago despite me asking her about it. I understood the policy completely.
Isn’t that bizarre?
Hoping they don’t take away the cards I do have! ‘_’
Another weird tidbit was that in recent months, I checked the Amex pre qualified link and it showed a few card offers for me including the Amex platinum charge card. Then this month no offers were available. I applied for the Ascend without any prequalified offers.

Anyone else had had similar experiences?
I guess I’m not sure if I’m on their good side or bad side. “

Update: got an email from this morning that my new Hilton Ascend card was shipped out.
Hoping to lay low and tend the garden and use it well for the next year until the bk falls

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

Congrats on getting back in with them . I don't think I ever will, it's been 13 years since I included with in BK.

The other weird thing is I can not even try the pre qualify link whenever I try it immediately sends me to the log in page. I can only guess my address triggers the log in since my husband has card with them. I have even tried going to pre qualify site while incognito mode still sends me immediately to log in page 😞

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

I had an AMEX Green card and Clear card awahile back.  When I entered entered the Clear card in DMP they closed the Green card too.

My new job uses Delta a lot so I decided to try for a AMEX Delta Reserved card and was approved.  I assumed that they blacklisted me but not sure now.  Anyway my point is that if your credit profile is good now and you don't still owe them anything, you may still have a shot at them.  I think they pulled EX but will have to wait for an update from MyFico to be sure.  I had no INQs on EX prior to applying.

If you have a need for AMEX and can aford the INQ and new account, I would try for it since you never know and even if they don;t approve you now, there isn;t any reset clock on being Blacklisted by them as far as I know.

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

Amex was included in our BK in 1999. My wife was AU on my card and she was also included in BK. In 2011 my wife received pre-approved mail for the Green Card. She applied and requested me as AU. She was approved, but I was denied as AU.
In 2013 I received invitation to apply for the Optima Card from American Express. "This was opportunity in connection with a settlement solicitation, which did not clearly disclose that a settlement could prevent me from being approved for a new account with us in the future. This was in response to an enforcement action by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regarding this issue". I was aproved for max. ($1,000) with stipulation, that account will not be eligible for credit limit increase for 36 months following account opening.
When I apply for CLI after 40 months, CLI was not allowed.
In 2017, I was notiffied by American Express, that my Citibank Hilton Visa will be converted into Amex Hilton Ascend card. In March 2018, I did received the new Ascend card with the original (Citibank Visa) CL of $20k.
So, now I have two Amex CC (credit card, not charge card) with combine (unsecured) CL of $21k. However, I'm still on black list, since any aplication for any other Amex CC (or request for AU) will be immediately denied without HP. BTW, my FICO is fluctuating between 840 and 850, with credit utilization of 1-2%. I'm checking it periodically and I did not see any SP from Amex in past until recently - 2 weeks ago. The new Hilton Ascend card re-check by Amex?
Isn’t that bizarre?

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

I never included AMEX in a BK.  When I was in my early 20s I got into an argument with a CSR and told her what she could do in a not so nice way.  They black listed me until last year - I kid you not.  I was a stupid kid and I paid a hefty price.

Now I have 4 revolvers for only $26k and the PRG, but I'm off to a good start.  I will never be rude to a CSR at any company for any reason ever again.

Edited...I was 46 when they let me back in.
