AMEX Delta Gold - Possible to Upgrade?

Is it possible to upgrade the AMEX Delta gold card to the platinum card?

 

Is an inquiry needed?

 

Any experience with upgrading AMEX is appreciated :-)

I assume you don't want the HP but why not just apply for the new one and ge the bonus as well?

Don't PC unless you can't get approved fir the Plat. Otherwise you forfeit the bonus. !

From what I've read on the forums, if you get declined, because you already have an Amex, you will not get a HP. If you are approved, however, you will take an HP ding.

If you have a Delta Gold already then typically you will get offers to upgrade to Plat. or Reserve for less than the current sign up bonus you would receive for a new card.  I think the current offer is for 60k miles for 2k spend and if I remember right, they offered me an upgrade a few months ago for like 15k miles for 1k spend.

I just took the upgrade to the Platinum with that offer.  No HP....I asked phone and chat agents numerous times before I accepted the upgrade if it was SP or HP.

I agree with above poster. Upgrades with amex does not incur HP.
