Greetings team -
AMEX customer for 13 years
Delta Platinum, Clear, and a business SimplyCash Plus
Just closed a One card last week.
Looking at some of the cards, they all state "you are pre-approved, Get a decision in as little as 30 seconds" but they all have an interest range, not a firm interest rate.
I looked at the Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, and the Blue Cash Preferred - all the same, a range, not a firm number.
Preapproved for the Platinum, there is a firm rate for cash advances for it.
Just curious if a range is normal when one gets the pre-approved message or if I need to wait a bit to see a firm interest rate.
Thanks much.
In my experience if it says "you are preapproved" it is usually pretty solid, if it asks you to "expand your membership" then no.
Your scores are great, UTI is in check, 13 years of history, and a preapproval. I would be super surprised if you were declined for anything that they have. If something interests you, then I would say apply.
I think you are prime for whatever card you like from them. Its most likely going to be an SP too.
They still show the APR range even when you're preapproved. You should be golden for whatever card you like!
I agree with the poster above. If it says "you are preapproved" you're most likely to be approved but if it says "expand your membership" then you're most likely gonna get a denial.
Not sure about that "Pre Approval" thing on AMEX. I got approved for the ED Blue preferred card and it didn't say I was approved for anything when I logged onto Amex, entered my info and hit the submit button.......nothing. I said what the hell....and completed the application anyhow and got approved for that card. So just because it doesn't give you a list of cards you're pre approved for that isn't set in stone and I'm proof of that.
I'm still awaiting a "pre-approval" offer when logged in. I select "Apply Now" on every card so far and I keep getting the dreaded "Expand your membership".
