@scorewatcher7 wrote:15-16 inquiries would red flag anyone. Amex is very cautious, and experian is their typical bureau. Also, I don't know what your income situation is, but 77k unsecured is alot of credit, even to someone who makes an above average living. Having that much credit can be perceived as risky. Amex could think with all the inquiries that you're looking to pyramid a little bit, in which case they'll deny you. You have a low utilization, but like I said, with that much available credit, even 5% util is around 4k outstanding per month and Amex might not like that risk... let some of the inquiries disappear, and then reapply.
I had about 26 inquires on my EX when I applied for my everyday card but it was my 2nd card. I had about 15 on my ex when I got my BCE
I think AMEX values internal score higher than EX report lol. That being said, why has this not been said yet....AMEX doesn't recon (or has something changed?...). I have not seen a thread on here with a successful AMEX recon.

AMEX does recon, I had to recon my first AMEX card with a 748 experian score with extremely thin file, no baddies. It was approved by recon.

Ok, cool. I did not know. They are not very well known (unlike their counterparts at Barclay's and Chase), so I really appreciate your feedback, and am glad you got your first AMEX on recon. Learn something new everyday
I wasn't trying to contradict you, just provide that there are a few of us around here that have had success with manual reviews with AMEX. If I were AMEX I wouldn't have extended someone with as thin of a file as I had a revolver, but I thought my score was high enough to warrant a second look. It worked and they were smart to give me the first card and subsequent others. They all see a lot of spending!

Amex does recon... Ask HeavenlyFlower for their recon letter to Amex.. Was Epic, turned a denial to I believe a 3500 or 4500 limit on a BCE.
$3900 Highest limit I had at the time. I love Amex (so far) So yes they most definitely recon.
You can have my Amex Gold! lol. I don't use it enough to justify the annual fee. Canceling it as soon as I transfer my points elsewhere. :x
You can't equate 15-16 inquiries for one person with a higher number for another. 15-16 EX inquiries is a LOT. But with an established thick file and a relationship with Amex, even 30+ may not be too much. If Amex is denying the original poster (OP) on recon everytime, then there is something on his profile that is freaking them out. The OP needs to read the denial letter and see what it states.
Scores are useful, but sometimes a credit score oversimplifies things. Two people with the same income/debt obligations/credit score are not identical credit risks. Even something as simple as how thick a credit file is can make a difference let alone something like an existing relationship with the issuer. OP if the recon failed just see the reasons for denial and work on it. If you have no prior relationship with Amex and they state something like new accounts or inquiries, gardening for a while might help.

My file isn't old about 1.5 years old ...30 is quite a lot and yet I got approved
Amex dinied me like 4 times before I was actually approved for 2 charge cards and I had to recon those apps .
So so I understand your pain lol
