ONLY negative? Hello????
Good news is you have a decent chance at recon if it's only inquiries and not too many new accounts. If denied ---> GARDEN.
Omg 16 inquires
We will see what happens. I got an alert notice from my credit monitoring that AMEX had pulled my EX and EQ this morning. So obviously, someone at AMEX is giving my recon request some consideration.
I hate to say it, but there is no "rest of the story" with me. I have an income well above the $100K mark, and I have no AU or Joint cards that might be messing things us. The only thing missing from my CR would be a mortgage.
The letter from AMEX said "late payments and excessive inquires" however, there are no late payments on any of my reports. That is one of the things I brought up when talking to the EO rep about a recon.
Are we twins? I am totally in the same boat. Good income, good scores, get most every card I apply for including the JPMorgan Ritz-Carlton....but cannot seem to get approval for the Amex Gold or Platinum! Makes me want them even more, and hate myself for it. And all I can think of saying is "Why does Amex hate me so much?" TransUnion says I have 15 recent inquiries, and 25 new accounts, so that's probably the "problem." But come on, can't a guy get a promotion at work and then start applying for cards in a two-year span? Is that so wrong? It's no wonder Amex is having trouble in the news -- laying off thousands of workers. Maybe if they approved some decent people like us then they'd start making some money again!

Acquiring a lot of credit in a short amount of time is seen as a risk by lenders. You can't blame them by denying someone that has acquired 25 cc's in a span of several weeks/months. Its just pure business for them to wonder why are you looking to obtain so much credit.
Of course if you can present your case to them...you can recon and plead it to change their minds. Btw, welcome to the forums!
@Anonymous wrote:I seem to be in the same boat that many other folks are. I have been approved for every credit card I have applied for in the last 60 days, including the Ritz-Carlton card, all with credit lines at or over $5K. AMEX won't approve me for any card that I apply for. I have tried for their Gold card, the EveryDay card, and the Blue Cash card and have all been declined.
I did just call today and asked for a recon. The rep told me that it would be 5-7 days, and that I would need to call back in to get the results from the reconsideration.
I have carried AMEX business cards for various employers for decades. I have never burned them, and my FICO scores at all three reporting agencies is over 720. My only negative is that I have 15 or 16 inquires on my EX.
Hmm.... We will see what happens...
Anyone had any experience with the recon process, and want to give me some sage advice if they decline my recon? I am not sure what options I would have at that point. Normally, I would take my licks and move on, but a personal AMEX Gold card is the last card on my bucket list before opening the gate to the garden, and locking it behind me.
Thanks...... I really appreciate the contibutions of everyone here on the forums. I began my credit repair journey alone, with little guidance, and have been able to finish strong thanks to all of the knowledge that everyone is willing to share with the forums.
dont feel bad they hate me too.. their reason was too few revolving accounts and not much of a credit history but they must have me confusewd because i have 9 revolving accounts and 2 years credit history * shrugs*

Highest limit I had at the time. I love Amex (so far) So yes they most definitely recon.
Is there a letter you can share with me or us that will get them to recon and approve?
Not to revive this old thread, but I did not get Recon to approve me.
I have applied for a different AMEX product every 31 days since then to see if I could get anything to stick. Well, I am quite shocked to tell you that I got an instant approval last night for the AMEX Delta Skymiles card. Never really wanted the Delta card because I don't ever fly Delta, but it was the only card I had not applied for.
I was not impressed with the $2K CL, but it is a start with AMEX, and for that I am thankful. It is my lowest CL, but I will attempt to work the 3x CLI after 61 days and see where that takes me....
Thanks....

Congrats on your (long awaited) approval!
At the time I apped for my Costco Amex for business I had 2 inq on my Experian report within the past 12 months and one was from Amex about 9 months prior. I think my util was around 35% and available credit to me was probably a little under $40,000. I believe my FICO was in the low 700s too.
