AMEX Reconsideration

Recently, I applied for the SPG personal card, wanting to get the 75k offer before it was gone forever, and was denied.  I read mutliple forums and posts and people keep stating that you will talk to a credit analysts and that you can plead your case to them if denied and whatnot.  However, that was not the case for me, when I called in, all the CSR did on the other side of the phone was give me the option to update my income and reprocess the application, it was submitted to the UW team.  In any case, where is this credit analyst that people are talking about pleading your case and what not and why you want this product?  Is there a different number that i should be calling aside from the AMEX reconsideration one?

Thanks

Re: AMEX Reconsideration

Yeah when they denied my BCE app in December I called and the guy I spoke to didn’t really seem all that interested in helping me and said he sent it back to UW for reconsideration but that they hardly ever override a system denial.

OP, there's no direct interaction with the UW folks when you contact them via the new accounts or reconsideration line.

They simply take down or update the information from the declined application and pass it on to UW.

The status would likely change online once it's been resubmitted, so you can check that periodically until the decision is made. Just keep in mind that if it's declined again, the decision is typically final.

Thank you for your input, people really do need to stop saying that you have to 'plead your case' or what not on other forums in regards to this because as I have said, I have never had the chance to do so with any AMEX app, just the change in anything on the app that could possibly escalate to an approval.

Re: AMEX Reconsideration

Well, in a variety of situations, especially those who have had a positive outcome, it's usually a good idea to have all your ducks in a row and provide the front line agent the pertinent information (not a novel) as to why the decision merits a reconsideration.

In other words, have any key elements that support it whether it's updated information on CRs that didn't reflect during the initial application or income sources, etc.,...not "you denied me for silly reasons".

Re: AMEX Reconsideration

In my own case I found it helpful to write a letter and respond to the denial letter they sent me (it is available online on their web site if you applied that way, and they also send one to you).  I thought nothing would happen, and then about three weeks later, I got an email with my new account info.  So it does work, if only occasionally.
