Advice on Capital One

Hello everyone.

Great forum by the way I learn something every day here. I currently have a Cap One Quicksilver that is around 5 months old that started at $300 limit and was granted an increase to $800 after 2 months. I keep this card at zero balance and spend around 4 to 6 hundred a month on it since it was new. I am also an AU on a Quicksilver my wife has with a $1500 limit that has a very low balance with plenty of usage also. My scores are all around 640 to 666 Fico and I have a Ford Credit with perfect history for 12 months. So the question is should I app for another Quicksilver card to get another tradeline and in hopes of maybe a little higher limit? I was turned down for a Discover It card due to a few old tax liens that are close to the ten year old mark. I was approved at Overstock for $1200 and I bought some shoes at JCrew and the instantley approved me for $600. I will admit I am anxious to get some decent credit limits going and am looking for advice. Should I do another Cap One card or just wait this one out for CLI's? Thanks in advance!

What are your current scores and from where did you get them?  Any other baddies on your report?

Re: Advice on Capital One

If you are interested in another Capital One card, you should definitely try the tool to see if you are pre-qualified. That way you don't waste 3 hard pulls in the meantime. Also I find Capital One to be extremely forgiving with certain bad things on your report. They also love loyalty. If you have credit cards already with them and you pay them on time and do great with utilization then I don't see why they would say no. Capital One values loyalty and what they see from your history with THEM in particular way more than they look at credit reports, at least in my experience. I have 2 cards that they say are for people with "excellent" credit which at the time when I applied I had nothing close to excellent credit, but I did have an extremely good record with them in particular. I said try the prequel tool if you are pre-qualified check back in a couple months.

Re: Advice on Capital One

I have just 3 very old tax liens and a 10 year old judgement. My scores are 666 Ex 647 TU 626 EQ from CreditCheckTotal. I do the Cap One Pre QUal in it says congrats you are Pre qualed for another Quicksilver or the Platinum. In a chat with them the guy felt I would be approved again for another card. Just wondering if it is worth the hard pulls of just sit tight and let the current one grow. I guess I was one of the lucky ones who got a CLI at 2 months.

I think you should apply for another Quicksilver then, or for a Barclays Rewards card, which will only pull TU, as opposed to Cap One which will probably pull all 3 bureaus.
