I was denied recently. It wasn't for available credit. I was given a BS reason of current obligations to income malarkey. The loan officer obviously didn't look at everything including the bank accounts I have with them. EQ is a 740 with no baddies reporting. I love when loan officers think they know what I can afford, but have ZERO clue. Lol
Luckily I had called and cancelled the app several hours before he even pulled my CR. I made them take off the HP, which they did and changed it to a SP.
Something tells me Alliant may be too conservative for the MF folks. We don't necessarily represent the normal borrower.
But hey, their banking side ROCKS!

That is correct, so we used the same credit report we pulled on 7/11 for the decision.

Hello Scott,
Thank you for this information. I spoke with a representative who informed me that Alliant could utilize a prior credit report if done within the past 30 days. Is this not correct?
Now I have the email so if I see a EQ HP pull we'll be going on the hunt for Alliant
I went back a couple of months. I have received a similar email each month. Not all of rewards card pre-approvals show a fixed APR. But the low interest rate card always has an interest rate listed. Here is the text from my July Pre-approval:
"Introductory 0% APR for 18 months. Then, standard variable rate of 9.49% APR applies"
Does your email have the opt-out message at the top?
"You can choose to stop receiving “prescreened” offers of credit from this and other companies by calling toll-free, 1-888-567-8688. See PRESCREEN & OPT-OUT NOTICE below for more information about prescreened offers."

Awww so that's the difference. The email that 12njoy posted was basically an invite to apply. Thanks for sharing this. Do you know which bureau Alliant is sp'ing?

Keep in mind that even with a fixed apr, you could still be denied if there have been changes in your profile from when the SP was done. A fixed apr is much better odds than a range. This is commonly seen with Discover prequals.
Sorry, I don't know which CRA Alliant uses for pre-quals. I have seen SPs from a couple of different CRA's. I will agree with the other poster, pre-qual's are not guarantees of approval. I am not convinced the OP didn't have a pre-qual. The wording was very similar to my email.

According to Alliant it was a preapproval not prequal, but we know neither are guaranteed.
