I app'd for the AMEX Business Rewards Gold last night (8pm est) and received the app in progress message too. I called immediately and after they asked my date of birth and zip in the automated system. The CSR came on and apologized for the "app in progress" message and told me I was approved. They wanted to make sure it was actually me that was applying. Card would arrive in 2-3 business days. Hope this ends up being your experience too. If you are already an AMEX cardholder, they'll expedite your card without addtional charges. Good luck!
