American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

App’d for a blue cash everyday card a couple days ago. Instant denial after CSR said I was preapproved for it and had a targeted welcome bonus.

I currently have an Amex Delta Gold card of my own and am on AU on another delta card with them, which is why I app’d for it. Thinking if I was denied it wouldn’t be a hard pull. Called to recon denial.

I got 3 hard pulls for it. 1 on TU and 2 on Experian. ( one was for the recon)

Scores :
660 TU fico8
657 EX Fico 8

3 collections on EX
4 on TU.

Listed my FICO score only as reason for decline.

New accounts offered me PRG card when I was doing the recon. Ended up taking that instead since it’s basically the same rewards and it has no Forex fee which I would use.

Would Amex remove at least two of the hardpulls if I called them ? I know I’m going to probably keep one of them since I ended up getting a card.

There is the credit bureau unit number you can call. Honestly I was just declined for the PRG and experienced two hard pulls (trying to recon). I wouldn't worry about it too much

Re: American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

I have 10 inquiries on TU and 10 on Experian. Now most of them are repeats when I had to call to recon credit card denials that ended up working out for me.

I just started rebuilding my credit history, so I have a ton of new accounts and inquires on my reports.

Done app’ing for cards. Just wanted a card that gave 2X on restaurants and groceries. since those are my weak categories.

OP, curious and as a data point are the collections open or closed? How old are they. Thank you

Re: American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

It's not super common, but sometimes when you call to reconsider a denial, additional pulls do happen. You are asking the creditor to review your info again and the HP is permissible. Many will just use the previously done HP but there's nothing saying they cannot do another pull if they decide they want to. It is annoying, but not much one can do about it since you are asking for the recon.

Re: American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

All of my collection accounts are open and unpaid.
2 are from 2011 ( $2117) they fall off in January of 2018.
1 is from 2015 ($1555) liability removed though but still on report.
1 is from 2016 ($670). Currently in talks to PFD on this one with the collection agency.

Re: American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

Thanx for the update, gives me hope that next month I can get back in with amex. I have a collection that will be 2 years April 2018 with PRA. Been battling them almost a year, I refuse to pay them for reasons too extensive here. Btw congrats on ur amex approval.

Shadowfactor,  It looks like you can almost see the light at the other end of the tunnel if you can just clear some of this.  I would just pay the $670 no matter how painful.  I had a similar collection and just biting the bullet and paying it was one of the best things I ever did.  It got me unstuck.  On the $1,555, have you tried disputing it multiple times?  I would dispute that, then again, then again, then again, seeing if you can shake them off your tail as you have removed your liability on it...which should be the basis of your disputes.  Then you just wait for the old one to fall off in the new year.

Re: American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

I tried disputing it with Transunion several times online through credit karma ?

Any suggestions on how to get it removed ?

I have a letter from the collection agency with language such as. Although we believe this debt to be valid, we have removed tour liability on it and have such ceased collection efforts immediately.

I don’t have the letter in front of me, but that’s about the jist of it

Re: American Express Blue Cash decline with multiple hard pulls

I would be inclined to try a dispute using the manual method since you already tried a few times thru CK.  There is a very simple form you can send into TU.  Maybe google Transunion dispute form.  The TU address is on the form.  Maybe you will have better luck with manual plus the creditor now has a notation in their files that they have removed liability and no longer pursuing collection so they may not respond this time.  It's worth a try.  It's about going over or under or to the side or other side, and a few times.  Try to shake them off.  They only have to mess up once and miss the deadline to respond.  Plus it sounds like you have a valid claim to have it removed and they now realize they have a weak claim.

If you feel it's true and can justify it, maybe say on the form its not your debt and even creditor has stated (on such and such a date) that you have no liability for the debt.
