American Express Credit Line Button

After waiting 60 days, I followed the datapoint to ask for a CLI on my American Express Preferred Card. I was denied. The reason was because the card was too new.

Today I went on AMEX's website and saw for the first time the button where I could click on it to ask for a CLI. I didn't see this when I asked for the CLI last month. I clicked on it, asked for the 3x my $5,000 credit line increase and hit the submit button. I got a message stating that they would let me know in 7-10 days.

I use this card pretty heavily, and I pay down the balance each month leaving a small balance on the card. I'll let you know what the results after I get their answer.

Awesome, I have been looking for this link since July when my Delta Reserve application was denied. I wanted to see the reason behind it again. Thanks for sharing.

OP- the fact you got a CLI button is a good sign, I dont even have access to said button and I am now going on 90+ days with my BCP, 1000 sl, running up around 800 monthly and PIF by statement.

I don't think the appearance/disappearance of the link means anything. I was able to request after around 104ish days, but I had to go find the link posted on here - it didn't show up for me on my account. I was approved for the full 3x.

Good link @cashorcharge.  Thanks!

I did notice that it shows all my card applications (and even some applications I started but never submitted).  Smiley Surprised However, it doesn't show any credit limit increase requests or approvals for me.

After I went back to the original page, I saw a statement:

"If you have requested either a line of credit increase or a balance transfer on an existing American Express card account, please call the number on the back of your card regarding the status of those requests."

Odd @Aim_High
I had used this link to track CLI's in the past....though admittedly, it's been maybe a year since I requested one....perhaps a change on their back end after the whole "Where'd the link go" snaffu.

Re: American Express Credit Line Button

I just checked the status of my AMEX credit line increase. Unfortunately, I was denied.

The denial was based on the fact that I have applied and opened too many credit cards this year. I hope this is a new datapoint for those of you wanting to increase your AMEX credit line after receiving 3 positive AMEX statements.

However,  I just received an updated Fico score. All three of my Fico scores have gone up, keeping me in the low 700s even though I requested an AMEX CLI and took a hard hit by applying and getting approved for the Sony Card this month. I am slowing rising in the 700 club. (FICO 8 Trans 708, Experian 703, and Equifax 704).

I have been waiting 3 months to apply and ask for CLI on some of my credit cards. The FICO point increase was primarily due to the fact that I paid off my Chase Amazon Card, and I paid down my Citibank American Airlines CC down totalling $1800. So, applying for the Sony card didn't have a point impact at all, while the $3,700 credit line increased my overall total credit line and thus lowering my overall utilization.

Either way, I will be gardening until 2026. I don't need or want any new credit.

Thanks for the DP.

But I'm fairly certain applying for the Sony card *did* in fact affect your score. It just may have been outweighed by the lowered utilization due to your pay downs.

You are not alone in a cli denial. I was just denied for the same reason. In all fairness I have a new car 8 months old, personal loan 6 months amex 3 usb 2 months in about a week. I was blacklisted from amex for years. Seeing this was the reason was actually better than based on previous account. I can't blame them 4 accounts in 8 months even though they reflect substantial payments made. Figured at least 6 months or longer before any other app. So will try a cli at a later date. Really wanted to break the 200k mark. That's the most disappointing part of it.
