American Express never forget

Good morning, my friends

. I was hoping you could look at this photo because I'm still wondering how my friend got approved back in April for the platinum card. Ever since then, everything he has been denied automatically: no credit pull no soft inquiry, and that is currently in process, the gold card was denied right after he submitted the application so he called up to have them reconsider it, and we know how that's gonna go.

It seems that they're still holding the bankruptcy back in 2001 22 years ago over his head. How is that still possible it makes no sense to me.

Re: American Express never forget

I don't know but the AF cards are easier to get at times and the friend of yours has applied 12 times so far this year.

Maybe that's one of the issues but it still doesn't make any sense business or personal. It's automatically getting declined.

IMHO your friend should stop already.

They probably have a lower bar for the platinum, since it gets them a $700 annual fee.

That's why I told him to stop applying. They're just not gonna let him have another card, no matter what.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'd certainly give it a rest.

You are 100% right give it a rest and that's what I told him don't apply for anything else but what amazes me is how some people on here get off Amex's blacklist and six months later they got three or four Amex cards with decent credit limits.  but no matter what it still amazes me how American Express still quotes previous accounts, closed as a decision for denial. 🤦‍♂️

Generally speaking its well known they have a really long memory and the only way most people get back in is if the amount was fairly minimal and a number of years have passed (I see < $10k mentioned a lot but I don't think anyone knows for sure) or amex gets paid in full. I would say the platinum approval is certainly an outlier here and isn't as much "off the blacklist" as "slipped through the cracks" as tends to happen from time to time.

I explained to him today that this would probably be his only American Express credit card so he better enjoy it.

Re: American Express never forget

I would not be surprised if the impose a low limit on the plat based on that credit seeking behavior.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

DON'T WORK FOR CREDIT CARDS ... MAKE CREDIT CARDS WORK FOR YOU!
