If you do it online, it depends on how fast you type and how fast your Internet connection is.. Usually, I can apply for a CLI from AMEX in less than 15 seconds.

Of course, you can always call AMEX and do it over the phone. Could take 5 mins or could take more depending on all the questions asked and how fast you get a CSR that can help you.

I always do mine online.

Apparently, in your case then, it will take 7-10 days for AMEX to either grant or deny your CLI.

Re: American Express?

I think I jumped the gun. I was appoved for 1k. When I first got the card i used it and logged on and made a payment. Charged some more and tried to make another payment. But, I coudnt I was told that I could keep charging that I would have a problem with getting the amounts approved. I did got the card up another 1k and paid payment of $1900. Sent my daughter her aAU card and booked a reservation at Hilton. The card was preauthorized for 1137 by HIlton. Well, my dd tried to use the card to get gas on her way for 4th of July vacation. AMex wouldnt approve the charges. I did a chat with customer service. The rep was kinda rude and I was told the charges wouldnt be approved because I was 189 of the limit. But that was a preauthorization with hotel incidental and not the charge. They still would approve any charges. I was told to mail a payment. I was so taking because it was a stark contrast to Amex attitude - charge you are building credit with us I assure you."  I do have a Gold Permier rewards but dd is in Texas and her AU card had not arrived for the use of the 4th vac. Go figure!

Re: American Express?

Yeah, 1K is a pretty low limit for AMEX to start you out with. As most on this forum will tell you - use your credit wisely and pay in full every month. I have never had the first issue with AMEX, but, I always pay in full every month.Hopefully, with the wise use of the 1K that you have, you will be able to obtain the CLI you want.

When Hilton put an $1137.00 hold on your card that available credit had indeed been accounted for and was not available to you until after the actual charges went through.

I see you are also asking about NFCU cards. It would appear that you are trying to get cards with high limits and that you maybe don't have the income for those high limits. Just be careful that you don't do something that you might regret later on.
