Just attempted to get my first CLI with Amex, today was the day I was told I could try. Denied.
Both cards, the BCE and Everyday, only have 1k limits. I barely used them because of these limits and told the rep this. She said I should wait another 10 months to a year to try again and that "I don't know who told you 60 days".
So, did I just get an idiot who doesn't even know Amex policies? Should I try again through chat or something?
Was there actually a denial or did the CSR just tell you that you were not eligible to request a CLI? If denied, what exactly, was the basis for the denial? You could have certainly been denied based on your credit and if that was the case then you'll just have to wait 90 days and try again.. If you were denied based on timeframe then the CSR probably was mistaken. You can request the CLI online which would rule out a mistaken CSR.
Keep in mind that 3x isn't a guarantee. All CLI's are based on credit and income regardless of creditor.

Keep in mind that you can use them as much as you want an pay prior to statement end to adjust reported utilization.

I called the Amex EO to find out the reason. I was denied because of a few factors, pretty much all relating to the same two negative accounts that fall off in April. I guess I figured that since I was approved for the cards to begin with, these two negative accounts wouldn't be an issue in terms of getting a CLI.
It did throw me off that she didn't sound like she knew about the 60 day thing. I'm definitely not waiting a year to ask for another increase. Once these two negative accounts are gone and my recent student loan consolidation is complete (should be past the 90 days at this point), I'm going to try again. If again I get denied I'm closing one of the cards and will just SD the other.
