I called the "New Accounts Department" and just asked what was the status of my application and he said declined. And it updated instantly online to "Declined". I called phone number 1-866-314-0237.
I hope I did not do something foolish. By calling that line you think they did a HP? Because the moment he said no I refreshed on there website and it showed the declined status.

@Dustin31,
I am sorry to hear.. I am quite surprise it is a hard pull. I am gussing you got a lousy rep. on the phone? I'd call and speak to someone else and see if you get the same answer as the first rep..
Do you think that rep declined/hardpull without telling me or the computer just declined me? They are now closed. I hope it was a soft pull guess I will find out tomorrow. I have experian credit service and I can update credit and fico once everyday.

I think the rep. did and not the computer as the computer did not decline you when you applied initially. Wait and see if a hardpull shows up tomorrow and call and talk to someone else either tomorrow or monday..
Just a update guys I checked today and no hard pull as of yet. So I hope it stays that way and thanks for all the help.
If Amex pulled HP for your recent approval on your ED, they are going to pull the same bureau. And if declined, it will be a SP.
And the rep that answered the call, did not decline you. I do not believe the reps have the authority to approve or decline applications. What they do have the authority to do is look at what the status is and notify you of an approval or denial.
I think that you went a bit far too soon. Something tells me that if you use your current card and pay off on time ( and possibly PIF?) that you will get approved for another Amex product. The scores and thin file leads me to believe that you "just made it across the winner's line" and need a bit of time to prove yourself?
