Hey everyone, on Tuesday I am eligible for my 3x CLI from my new Amex card. I was wondering if there is a "target zone" for your utilization when you request the CLI. My CL right now is 1k. I planned on putting 100 dollars on it before my CLI request and then go for the 3x CLI request. Can anyone tell me if thats ok to do? Also, does it matter if I request the CLI on my first day eligable for it or does that come of as "desperate" to the lender? Any info anyone can give me regarding all this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Your plan is fine. Actually, I think you're fine as long as you've been using the card and making payments that are either in full or substantially above the minimum.
I've seen nothing here that suggests that AMEX thinks you're desperate if you apply on day 61. Some wait an extra day to two to make sure they've counted right.
just use it the way you normally wood, if you're eligible, whether you always PIF or leave balances reporting you can always submit the request. One thing you should be prepared for is that, typically, AMEX would like to see at least 5-6 mos. of good history if they started you off with a low limit. So in case they deny your first CLI request, just continue to use as per normal and wait for 91 days and you stand a better chance of getting approved.
I think you will be fine. I had $800+ on my $1,000 card before I applied for my 3x. Approved.
