Not unless they request additional information. Sometimes certain requests (new apps or CLIs) can get stuck on the backend. Typically, the back office is the one to resolve these types of instances, but they have no direct contact with the customer. I would just wait it out, even though it's been more than 2 weeks.
Finally got my letter in the mail... got denied for BS reason... any chance at a recon or is it not even worth it and just wait 90 days?
Denied for unsatisfactory payment history according to experian (1 30 day late on a car loan in 2018 is all that I was ever late on)

Given the reason they've shared with you, personally it's not worth the reconsideration as they may not budge at all. I would just wait the 91+ days and try again at that point.

Fair enough, hopefully amex takes me off the sh*t list in August for my gold card if not I'm going to just sock drawer the BC and close the gold and call it a day.

But it's not a BS reason. To quote Credit Karma: "A single 30 or 60 day missed payment is easier to recover from, but can hurt your score significantly."
2018 isn't that long ago. With time, the impact of that late payment will decrease.
I know this is disappointing, but let some time go by and try again. You'll have better luck down the road.

Closing the Gold card and sock-drawering the BC will be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Amex is not losing anything by you doing that. Being annoyed with Amex is normal but throwing a "tantrum" will not help you either.
Do what you can, if you haven't tried already that is, to have the 30 day late removed from your report. It will hold you back and probably has held you back before, from other lenders.

I'm sure amex isn't loosing anything but I'm not gaining anything by keeping them open either... I can't use the gold card on half my restaurant purchases because I'm capped at 2k so I use other cards anyway.... I tried with the 30 day no luck and no advice on what to do either since no one has had luck with my lender (citizens one auto finance). And if they wanna quote the 30 day as being an issue why give me the cards in the first place lol, I got both my amex cards after the 30 day late. The problem was I missed an income verification from them two years ago and that's effectively put me in the stink with amex and apparently only waiting can do anything they told me my gold card is getting a review this August for the NPSL again and if not it's really not useful for me and I have to pay the AF.
So, you're a restauranteur? Cool. I understand your frustration with the Gold. I didn't know there was such a thing as being "capped" for a charge card.
You're right. If you can't freely use the Gold card, which is the reason I'm assuming you got the card in the first place and you're paying a hefty annual fee, then there's no point in holding on to it.
You did say that there's going to be a review and August is here. So, perhaps wait? Then go from there?
What about Capital on Tap? Try them. They don't do a hard pull on your personal credit either but they do pull your Business Experian report.

Never heard of capital on tap, right now I just use my discover or Citi for large restaurant purchases or DWs apple. And yeah they can cap you if they feel you won't be able to repay... from no preset spending limit to whatever they feel like is safe.

Try them. Use the drop down tab for the US. You have nothing to lose. Capital On Tap

While I appreciate the advice, 2% back is not worth applying for a new card plus I'm sort of gardening for inquiries right now. I already have my citi for 2% and disco 5% rotating might try chase out again once my inq drop off
