Amex Cli question

Recently I got off the Amex blacklist and approved for a BCP for 32,600. I waited the roughly 94 days to request a cli and used the link off the forums because my account did not show one. Anyways I was denied. I had assumed it was because of other recent auto and a personal loan and another cc opened after them. I was wrong. I received a letter that my income is insufficient fir any additional credit lines or increases and if I would like to submit additional information and how to do it. I make just about 85k per year. This is my only Amex card and it was my first cc that I have opened in 2.5 years. I'm wondering is that normal to have maxed out on a single card with them? I've worked hard at a rebuild but seems to me kind of strange to hit max in one shot. Any opinions? Thanks!

Re: Amex Cli question

I'm sure the experts will weigh in with some hard data, but I'll say this:

It seems you have a very solid limit on a new card, issued by a lender that you burned at some point. Maybe just let it be for a bit and build some history.  Can you tell I'm generally *not* the squeaky wheel type? Ha!

Looking forward to hearing what other members have to offer re: your situation.

Re: Amex Cli question

@Traveler101, You might be at max limit ..that they are comfortable with at this time?

One way to know, is check the Amex Pre-Qualification,  spin the wheel and see where it lands?

I had hit a certain limit, then Applied for another card, they handed me the whole candy bowl.

Also, others will chime in, you can bet on itSmiley Happy

Kidding obviously.  Not a bad limit to start out with.  However if that feedback is true, be prepared to do either Proof of Income, or the Financial Review.  I believe you're in the neighborhood of their threshold.  As always, YMMV.  Good Luck!!!

Re: Amex Cli question

Thanks folks. I was curious. Time and some usage and maybe try again in a year. I am pre approved  for other cards of theirs. That's a plus, however not opening another with them anytime soon. I will just nurture the one for now. I was and still am in awe the limit they gave me out the door. Considering my past with them and a relatively short history in the credit world. Many of my old accounts are long gone off my reports when approved. I only show a 9 year history with oldest open account just turning 7 years. Amex gave me my highest limit outside of credit unions. Considering what I had done to credit years ago, not a bank would touch me. Hard work and diligence and time does payout years later. Thanks all!

YES, AmEx is very much salary driven on their CL's and have an interal max CL for everyone based on that. The fact that they gave you all of yours right off the beginning is somewhat strange for sure but not unheard of. You can probably get other AmEx credit cards even though you can't get any more CLI's. But they will share the limit that you have now. In other words you'd have to move some of that $32.6K to any new card.

Re: Amex Cli question

Totally agree with @bigseegar. They really rolled out the red carpet for you on this one @Traveler101 . Honestly I think you could do anything if you let it age 6 months to a year. They are seriously good that way.

Re: Amex Cli question

I am basking in that one actually. Thanks for the compliments on the card. I was thinking on my drive home, how times have changed. I learned much from many people on this forum. Reading posts, the knowledge is immeasurable. To think 7 years ago I got a 300 cap1 card. Took a long time to get that. Now I'm maxed out for the time being on 3 lenders due to income or by their limits. It's a different max now than the old days. Long stints in the garden, and let things age off, and going slow does reap rewards.
