Hello all,
Current credit scores 706 717 and 710
Approved for $9k on Amex blue
as of today only $1k for delta Amex sky miles gold
no late payments, credit utilization 9% across all cards
Should I cancel the card and wait 6 months for potentially higher limit
You can keep it open and request a CLI every 91ish days.
If you are using it, and your credit scores are improving along the way, it can grow quite rapidly, as AmEx commonly gives 3x CLIs.
A number of us on this forum have gone from $1k to $27k limits on AmEx credit cards in as little as 9 months + a few days.
I started at $1k on my BCE card in October 2022, and am at $34k now.
When I first got the card, my scores were just slightly lower than where yours are now.
Thank you for your reply,
My concern is the Amex blue of $9k, I spent $5k in a month and paid it off of course before statement date and make continuous large payments however upon requesting cli for amex blue that I've had for 3 months they are also declining cli on that card.
Not sure what to do.
IMO, you will find that they become more generous as your credit scores grow, so I'd focus on that.
Your scores are not bad, but the high 600s to low 700s range is kind of the entery point for getting approved for AmEx credit cards.
It means they've extended all the credit they're comfortably willing to extend at this time. That's a borderline qpproval. Nothing will change that but time. Closing it could be a flag to them as they typically want you to keep the card open at least 12 months. People who don't can be blocked from SUBs on other cards in the future. Don't know if you had a SUB on it or if closing a card without a SUB could lead to the same action, but why risk it?
This is good information. Thank You

you can try moving a portion of your blue cash limit to the delta gold once the delta gold is old enough (1 statement? maybe longer) so the card is more comfortable to use
Agree with the others, I don't think you'd have better odds with a new apps in 6 months vs requesting a CLI on this account.
Over time it will very likely grow with responsible use and assuming your income and other criteria are good w AMEX.
I do also think that transferring some of the CL over from your other card wouldn't hurt, also considering that $1K won't get you very far with Delta these days.

So glad I added my question to the forum. Several helpful responses, including.
I will def keep the card now.
Thanks All
Above comments are spot on. I started @ 1k SL 2016 and now at 30k. I did use it like a debit card and was constatntly swipeing and paying.
It will grow nicely for you if you look after the account. Congrats !
