Both got the no-SUB pop up and then got declined. Reason: FICO score. Which makes no sense since 671 is higher than it was when I got approved in March. Obviously the system has me flagged because of my previous application and approval, which still shows in the app status page. Is there a recon procedure or did I just become the first garden fence jumper of 2019 for no reason?
You were supposed to wait at least 90 days. That was to make sure your scores stabilized and give you a boost. Amex is saying your score is below the approval standard?

They are but it’s actually 8 points higher than it was when they approved me in March.
Waiting 90 days wouldn’t have been beneficial since I still have BBVA and my NFCU Platinum not reporting yet.
What were the secondary reasons a.k.a. the real reasons for denial?

Obviously they threw my bankruptcy, late payments in the past, etc on there, but I haven’t had any bad activity on my Experian since 2012, every single account since has been nothing but positive.

Yes it would have. I've jumped the gun myself a couple of times. Those extra 90 days can make or break an approval.
Especially since your profile is still strengthening.
My score is actually pretty stable on EX. I have gotten to the point that inquiries and new accounts aren’t helping or hurting my score, actually my BBVA inquiry pushed it from 670 to 671 in December after it had been stagnant at 670 since June.
The student loans and car lates are what are keeping my profile down now and those will start aging off this year.

I don't think it's as serious as everyone makes it out to be. I was approved 9 days after a denial. Something changed that's keeping him from getting approved. In my case, I don't remember if it was score, utilization, or both.
OP: I'd recon and see what the analyst has to say.

Yeah I’ll call tomorrow. I have a pretty good case for a manual review but reading, Amex doesn’t seem to overturn denials often. If they don’t, it’s whatever, I have the ability to make BBVA a 3% grocery card any quarter I feel like it and the inquiry didn’t drop my score anyway plus I live in Colorado — nobody pulls EX besides BBVA and Amex.
You just need to get the real reason for denial from them. I didn't have pre-approvals either and got my card on a cold app, 9 days after a denial from them.
