Re: Amex ED Application

The probably don’t like my new accounts which is exactly what I suspected would happen before I applied. But I am about to have 2 more so it was now or pretty much never. *shrug*

If recon doesn’t work, I will just go back to my original feelings of never having an Amex and not caring about never having one.

It's something internal. They're required to send you a reason for denial, doesn't have to be the real reason. I had those same reasons when I was denied, then I was approved, then I had the exact same reasons for denial of CLI.

With the exception of bankruptcy and auto CO, my reports are worse. I also opened 6 credit cards (1 the month before), 2 installment loans, and a car loan in the 6 months prior. Not to mention the 12 HP that were in that same time period.

The issue is internal. Amex isn't fond of cards being closed in the first year after getting them. I bet that's the issue.

And that’s exactly what I was suggesting before I did the app as the issue I was going to face is that card appearing as closed when it was never actually used. I’ll just plead my case and go from there. I don’t need the Amex thanks to the versatility of my BBVA card but if I get the Amex, I can change one of my BBVA categories to like dining or retail or something. Currently that card is utilities 3% and retail 2% since Disco has groceries covered 1Q.

Think of denial reason or reasons provided from a credit issuer like asking out the hot girl in high school.

She may feel compelled to give you a reason why she can’t date you, but that does not mean it is the real reason.

Was Amex IIB?

If not then I would think you could eventually have an Amex when credit profile strengthens.

Amex was not IIB and I actually got approved for this same card last year with a lower score. Long story short I canceled it before it even showed up because Discover approved me for $7500 right after and SSFCU for $5000 which more than doubled my existing credit and I also didn’t want the AAoA hit. But I ended up taking that anyway when the card was reported two months later and it was just a stupid miscalculation on my part, much like closing my PlayStation and Ollo cards right after was as well.

I just called and recon’d and if after manual review it’s still a no, I’m just going to continue on and not bother with Amex again as I can use my BBVA card for 3% back on groceries if I wish.

Ok, then BrianEarlSpilner analysis is correct.

Otherwise based on credit profile I would have expected approval.

Unfortunate about the EveryDay closure but I do not have a time machine to undo my own mistakes either.

Yeah hopefully manual review they do see that I want the card because I certainly have the profile to support it, even more now than when I applied in March. But if it’s a no, I’m going back in the garden to let some things age off and then I might ask Sync for a PayPal card around September since Transunion will lose everything negative except my BK in July.
