Amex EveryDay - Invitation to Apply

Hello,

I currently have an Amex Optima card, which I have had since 1997.  I received an e-mail from Amex inviting me to apply for the Amex EveryDay Credit Card, with RSVP Code.  My questions are:

-- Since I am established Amex card Holder, they obviously know my full history.  With this offer and RSVP code, is likely that I would be approved?

-- When I click on the APPLY link, I am taken to a page that asks for the RSVP code and my zip code.  Would there be any way of knowing if that is leading me toward a HP or SP?  I do not see a mention of either up to that point.

-- The invite does reference my name and the last few digits of my current card, however it does not say if being granted the EveryDay card would close the Optima Card, however I assume it would.  Am I correct?

Thanks!

Can't answer most of your questions, but I had an offer to come in the mail last month that I used on their site. It was a HP.

Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!

Re: Amex EveryDay - Invitation to Apply

It is very likely you will be approved, but definitely not guaranteed.

There's a couple schools of thought on how amex does CR pulls for established cardholders. The main one is: if you are denied, SP. Approved, HP. Either way, it will be a HP if approved

No, it will not close your other card. It will open up a new account alongside your current one

Re: Amex EveryDay - Invitation to Apply

Additions to my questions above....

-- I currently have a $9,500 CL with my Amex Optima Card.  I should be eligible in about two weeks to apply for a CLI (been just shy of six months since my last CLI).   I am hoping that if I ask for the 3X increase that I will get at least $20K or so, but obviously no way of knowing for sure.  IF getting the EveryDay Card automatically closes the Optima Card, would be CL likely be close to the same as I have now?  I would hate to have the Optima $9.5K closed for say a $2K EveryDay.  If the EveryDaydoes not close the Optima, then I guess it does not really matter.

Re: Amex EveryDay - Invitation to Apply

As in my post above, ED will not affect optima at all. If you wanted to close the optima, you can likely move the CL to your new card. I.e. If you get approved for $5500 on the ED, you can move the $9500 over for a total of $15000. Does that make sense? And even that isn't guaranteed. However to repeat, opening a new card WILL NOT close your old one.

Re: Amex EveryDay - Invitation to Apply

+1 to jjnels.

I have a Delta Gold SkyMiles. Apped for a Delta Platinum SkyMiles in February, and it resulted in a second card (they like AF #1 for $95, they like AF #2 for $175 even more, so add it on).

You will get a second card, no question.

You will be able to do a CLI SP on your Optima, that is not influenced by getting another card, although depending on the CL that is given with the second card, your total AMEX CL amount could run into overall exposure limits. That could put a lower ceiling on the Optima SP CLI, but YMMV.

Re: Amex EveryDay - Invitation to Apply

Almost makes me want to go back and see if I deleted the emails from them.   I think I have gotten 4 emails from them in the past two months about this card.  I don't remember a code, but am almost curious about if it was there.  (Won't apply, but am still a little curious.)

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.
