So I tried the Amex pre approval page, and Amex wanted access to my bank account. They asked me to log in to my primary bank while the Amex pre approval page was still open.
I've never been asked to do this by any other bank for a CC. This Seems rather intrusive! Is Amex really that special that they can request this? Should I try apping for a different Amex product, like the Blue Cash Card, and possibly avoiding this banking verification process?
I would like a relationship with Amex, but I think they're moving Way Too Fast! Kinda like proposing marriage on the first date kinda thing! :-) I'm not that kinda gal!
What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for your input!
I think it's more than likely to prevent fraud not to cause it. @DodgerLady that's how the banks are operating these days.
It really depends on what data they're trying to validate.
What were your scores when you applied? Stated income?
I am doing a similar app (AMEX DELTA GOLD) and had to do the same thing. However mine wont work. I have Huntington and it keeps erroring that I need more than 30 days of transactions. Apparently that is all HNB shares and I have no way to adjust it.
I didn't try to give them my banking info. I'm with Bank of America.
it sounds like you have borderline scores and they want to verify deposits to support the income you listed.

Just commenting on this part... I don't think you would have better results with any of the credit (revolving) products since anecdotally they can be even more difficult to get approved for than the charge cards (Green/Gold/Platinum).
It's a fraud feature, dont know when it started, but I did it recently. PLAT, Delta Gold, Hilton and Bonvoy. I can't remember if it asked for each one, I don't think it did after my first approval. I think it did for my first, which was HH, then I got the Delta, they sent me the offer for Plat and I got the Bonvoy through a Bonvoy offer.
@DodgerLady I found it weird too. When I applied for my platinum card they did not ask for anything. After getting my platinum card I applied for the AMEX BCE about a three weeks later and they asked to connect to my bank accounts. Though it was weird I went through with it and was denied. A week later I applied for the Amex Gold and they did not ask for anything but the held on to my approval for further review. Three days later I was approved.
