Amex - Offers

I'm new to the Amex family, with a Delta and PRG in January.  I am still learning to navigate the system and do not intend to app for other products anytime soon.  I know when I go to my account home, I can click menu>cards>Charge & credit card offers to see prequals.  From there I see this screen, which I assume would mean no solid prequals.  Actual question below pic.amex.JPG

My question comes in right here.  Nearly all I open have a range for APR, except one.  The Mercedes Benz card.  Now, I don't need this card and don't intend to app it.  I'm curious though if it is a Prequal or if this is what a Prequal looks like once you are an Amex member.  Here is what I see when I open the Mercedes Benz card details.  Single APR (not a range), even when I click on the terms and conditions.  I'm trying to get an understanding of what an Amex Prequal looks like once you already have products with them.

From my experience, it will actually say you are prepproved at the top of the page.

Re: Amex - Offers

To see if you're actually pre-approved you need to select one of the "Featured Cards" then click on the "Apply Now" button.

If you're pre-approved you will then see a message at the top of the page stating "radfam, you are preapproved. Get a decision in as little as 30 seconds."  If you aren't pre-approved you will see "Applying to Expand your membership with us is easy."

Note also, that "Featured Cards" are just Amex's selection of cards they think might interest you.  You can click on "View all cards" and check each one to see if you're pre-approved.

Re: Amex - Offers

I've never actually seen an image that shows "pre-approved", not have I seen it myself, though I've only been paying attention for 6-8 months.

Regarding the MB card, I don't believe the interest rate varies.  I think it's fixed for all cardholders, so it wouldn't indicate any special pre-approval.

Nice, I never knew that.  Looks like I'm pre-approved for every single card though.  Is that normal?

This is what the pre-approved message looks like when you click the "Apply Now" button.

Yes.  Once you're a member of American Express you have access to all the cards your credit scores and income support. You can have up to 4 credit cards and 4 charge cards for an individual account, although some people report having 5 credit cards.

Re: Amex - Offers

Thanks! I hadn’t actually clicked apply now on any of the cards. Still haven’t, haha! But good to know what it looks like. I have a few other priorities in the meantime, so not planning to add any additional Amex. I was just curious about what I was seeing! You all have been helpful!

Re: Amex - Offers

Clicking on "Apply Now" is harmless since there's still some information you need to fill in.  So you can explore which cards you're pre-approved for then hit your browser's Back button to exit.

As other's have said, you need to click on the Apply Now button to see if you are pre-approved.

Just remember that if you apply for 2 revolvers within 90 days (2/90 rule), you will not see any pre-approvals for 3 months. Similarly, if you are a new customer you will not see any pre-approvals for the first 90 days as well. Be patient. They will show up.
