@Anonymous wrote:Hi. I'm new to the United States this year, married my wife and filed for Adjustment of Status. My Employment Authorization Card and Social Security Card arrived in the mail this week, so I've opened a bank account, and applied for a couple of credit cards. I was approved for an unsecured Discover It and a secured Cap 1, so I tried the Am-Ex pre-approval page and I was offered 3 different cards.
Upon completing the app for one of them I was asked to upload a 4506-T form. This is where I'm stuck - I wasn't in the US last year, didn't work in the US, and didn't file taxes this year. My now-wife did - as a single person head of household. I also used her current income during the app, as until I find employment that is the only household income to which I have access.
Can I explain this to Amex and have them verify me another way? If I can, what is the number to call them about? There is no contact number on the upload page or in the email.
Thanks
You may just need to wait until you file 2018 taxes. If you and your wife file jointly then you would be able to get a 4506 T for 2018. So just wait and reapply later. I believe that Amex does ask for household income, so you are OK using your wife's income if it is deposited into a joint account.

Don’t take this the wrong way but don’t feel entitled to get a card at this point...what you have should be more than suffice with no income or job, in fact I’m shocked you even got anything, so I’m not surprised one bit. I was run over by a car 4yrs ago and got screwed during settlement where I had to file bankruptcy on med bills I couldn’t afford. I make over $120,000 & own multiple businesses now (the comeback of the century) yet AMEX won’t give me a card due to my bankruptcy from almost 4yrs ago now (no AMEX was put through BK either). Honestly I would be very upset if AMEX just offered up a card to someone with no job, no income, no taxes paid etc. Again no offense to anyone but a secured card is where you should be starting PERIOD.
OP just needs to wait till the taxes are filed.
Your response however is UGH on so many levels.
OP never stated he will never get a job or pay taxes. He's new to this country. He does not seem entitled to me, he's looking for advice. Many people have non working spouses/partners, that does not deem them unworthy of credit as long as they pay their statements.
I am happy you had a successful recovery from BK, but by that same logic, I could be upset that anybody has given you a credit in the light of your bankruptcy.
However, I am not upset. I love success stories and I don't find it too hard to wish a feel good story for everyone, including you.
Welcome!! You have the same situation as my husband Waiting for EAD and AOS. I'm the one working and handling all our finances, hence all credit related issues. Major thing that helped him is adding as AU and now he has credit history which helped him got a 3K SL Cap one Platinum Unsecured. But as any itch that needed to be scratched, I also applied him to Costco Anywhere Visa & Barclays which resulted in both denials. So I agree to all advices before me that wait on it a while for Amex or on other cards.
Do not let any negative story here ruin your future, I hate reading degrading experiences that makes people queasy. Just because something bad happened to you, why would you let OP feel he doesn't deserve any future credit?
Since the OP hasn't been back to this thread since he posted a couple of months ago it is now locked and closed to new messages. If the OP returns and would like to give us an update, he's welcome to notify any moderator who can re-open this thread.
I'll also use this opportunity to provide a reminder about posting in a Friendly, Supportive, and Respectful manner... it's not optional here. Also if you feel the need to be judgemental please do so elsewhere; myFICO isn't the place for that.
