Amex cli declined

So I did a cli on my delta Amex gold and they used an old report and declined the request. Called in and requested a manual review. Just called and was informed that was declined. Reasons are..

Fico score. They told me they pulled ex and it was 715.
Balance too high on Amex. Actually it's $65 with a $1k limit.
Dergotories to recent or unknown. Last late was 6.7 yrs ago.
Balances too high on revolving accounts. I've got 23% util.
Time with Amex too short.... Been with them 10 months.

This is the lowest limit I have on any card. I just don't get Amex. I've done something to piss them off I guess.

Thinking of just apping for a new delta platinum card. Questions is will they decline it too? Income is $220k. Only reason I want the card is b/c of the delta miles. If it weren't for that I would close my Amex and move on.

Re: Amex cli declined

Sounds like you got a standard laundry list of denial reasons. Be that as it may, seeing as how they just declined a CLI, apping for another card may not be that wise, although a denial would likely result in a SP, so you may not have much to lose. If I had to guess, I'd say that 23% utilization may be the cause of your denial.

Re: Amex cli declined

So how would I know if they do a soft or hard pull on a new app?

Also. I did t think 23% util was all that bad.

If you are a current Amex cardholder and apply for a new card a denial usually results in a SP, an Approval will result in a HP, which most people don't mind because it garnered an approval. 23% Utilization doesn't sound bad in the grand scheme of things, but lenders like Amex don't care for it. maximizing Fico scores requires 9% or below for utilization, so I'd like to think a lender likes the same formula when I apply.

Re: Amex cli declined

This is weird. Just got a call from a AZ number. It's amexcustomer service wanting to make sure I was happy with the call I made earlier today. I said no. No reason I shouldn't qualify for a cli. She said she would re-request an account overview. I said ok they just did this. She wanted to do it again and got my updated income. Hung up and had an email from Amex saying to call in about my new cli request. Called in and the guy was rude and said it was declined again and I should t have re-requested since they just declined it earlier this week.

I didn't even try to do another cli, the customer service rep suggested it!! So frustrating!!!!

Re: Amex cli declined

What are your limits on other cards on avg?

I have seen a few folks specifically with delta golds be grid locked into really low limits.  Honestly, how often would you make a delta purchase higher than 1k?

I have personally attempted to get an auto increase by using the card exclusively and didnt have much luck. Instead I will reallocate limit from another card.  You can at least try for APR reductions during this time.

Isnt there some way a person could call and push for a financial review, try to reveal your assets and such?  Since your income is so high it might help but could be a hassle.

As far as applying for the platinum I would only do that if you could get the 60k miles offer but even then you are paying $195 af the first year (essentially $95 year one since you get $100 credit after first delta purchase)  You also get an annual companion pass which is nice for domestic flights.

You may just have to consider another creditor.  Or write a few goodwill letters to get the late payment removed, (dont those drop off after 7 years?)

Re: Amex cli declined

I agree. Request that the late be taken off. They will usually take them off a few months early. Then maybe wait 60 days and ask for a CLI again. Or wait a month and apply for the Platnum

Re: Amex cli declined

Yes. For clarification the late Is not from Amex. It's from a Honda account from oct-dec 2009.

I understand that. You request for early removal from the Experian, equifax and transunion
