It seems that historically on this board, many people decide to app spree in the beginning of the new year. It does not seem to happen as much now as it did a couple of years ago but one thing to consider is the spending bonus.
Often times, people will app for upwards of 6 or 7 major CCs that a lot of times have a nice bonus offer. These offers are generally "Spend $3,000 (or however much) in the first 3 months and you will receive X amount of bonus points. For anyone who is considering an app spree like this, make sure you can put the money through each card to receive the bonus. By not meeting the bonus requirement, you are squandering the chance to get a major benefit of these cards.
So anyways, just food for thought. Good luck on any New Year Apps!
Word!
Thanks for the words of advice.

Just so anyone reading this is aware, American Express no longer backdates so it doesn't matter when you apply for their cards.

Thanks Irish. I edited that out of my original post. When did they stop doing that? I took an 18 month forum break and didn't hear about that one.

Yeah, I figured that you weren't aware due to your absence. As of March 21, 2015 any cards reporting for the first time were reported as opened at the time of approval regardless of your time with Amex. Cards that previously reported as opened at the date of your first Amex card still report that way as of now. Just new accounts were affected. Cards still say Member Since the earlier dates but as you know that is useless unless it's reported the same which sadly they no longer do.

Seems like a change that doesn't really benefit Amex too much. I am curious why they did that. You know, it would be pretty interesting to start a thread in 2016 for updates to changes in the status quo for lenders. Basically, just a thread that can be updated with changes to terms and conditions or things such as the Amex backdating being no more. Just have to find a way to stop the every day chit-chat on there.

No one knows for sure the reason but speculation was that other banks complained that it gave Amex an unfair advantage and that they weren't reporting accurate information.
As for your thread suggestion, that might be a good idea but not within my powers as it would need to be a stickie, otherwise it would just drop off the page after awhile. I'll mention it to a mod and see what they have to say.
