App spree advice - AMEX, CSP

I need some advice based on my FICO 8 scores: EQ - 776, TU - 776, EX - 741, 2 closed cards, 1 late payment in the last 4yrs, 0% utilization, credit history - 11yrs.

 - have 2 credit cards (Barclays and Nordstrom store card), highest SL - $4900

I would like to apply for 2 amex cards, as I read the rules are 1 charge card and revolving card within 90 days. Do you advise applying for the charge card first or the revolving card? Also, interested in Chase card but read up on 5/24. Should I complete my chase application before venturing into AMEX land or have all three applications submitted at thesame dammm time...haha

AMEX cards - I prequailified for the Gold, Green, Plat, Everyday cards. I really want the Marriott amex but not sure its worth it, I am marriott titanium and would be hosting events this year at marriott properties in excess of $30k (any other cards you all think make the most sense?)

CHASE - I am afraid, but the CSP bonus is tempting. do you think my score/profile are good enough for chase cards? I am thinking of the Marriott boundless for the bonus, as well and United's card.

Any other rewards cards that make sense?

Any reason you want to apply for all three cards at once? You have very good scores and account age, but your profile is thin (card wise). Do you have anything else like a mortgage or auto loans? I'm just trying to get a clear picture of your overall profile. Also, you wrote 0% utilization. If both of your cards have a $0 balance, it would help to put a small charge on the Barclays card and let it report to get a few more FICO points.

I think you're a prime candidate for Amex and Chase. Always apply for the card you want the most first, but in this case the better choice is probably Chase first and then AMEX. I don't know if I would advise to apply for a third right away though. Chase will see your app spree when they check up on you and might not like it. I do think your scores will greatly benefit by adding two major bank cards.

Oops, just noticed the late payment. Not sure how much that will affect a Chase app, but at least it's a few years old. Someone else may want to chime in.

Did you check for Chase preapprovals @NAIJAMAN?

I dont have any chase credit cards and my checking account has no offers. Is there another way to check for pre-approvals?

How recent is that late payment, and how is it reporting?  30 day?

You don't need to be a current client to look for a Chase preapproval.  Go to https://www.chase.com/prequalified  and fill out the form, there will be no hard pull.

Chase prequals are generally pretty solid but they don't check for every senario.  It's possible to prequalify and still get a denial if you apply.

Re: App spree advice - AMEX, CSP

Thanks for the response.

No mortgage or auto loans. Have 0 utilization on both cards right now but typical have like 5% for statement close. Reason I was trying to get these cards are below

Marriott boundless - I am a marriott titanium, so I think having a card makes sense. I am also hosting a event at marriott this year and the room spend added, will be something like $30k. Due to my status I will get 17points per dollar spent.

AMEX Plat - I prequalified for the 100k bonus. I travel for work and will enjoy lounge access, points for hotel/flights, uber credit, etc

Chase CSP - The 100k bonus is attractive and I have banking relationship already through checking account.

Marriott Boundless from Chase or Marriott Brilliant from AMEX - any ideas which may be best? I know amex has a high annual fee

@NAIJAMAN  Since you already have a banking relationship with Chase you can visit any branch and ask a personal banker to check whether you have any in-branch offers.  In-branch offers are typically the most solid offers provided by Chase.

I think the other question you need to ask yourself is how high of a limit will you get? The Marriott card might be great for you, especially with the kind of spend you're going to put on it, but if the limit is low, it's not going to be very helpful. I also don't recommend maxing out a new card unless you can pay it down right away. And even then, it might scare the lender.

Regardless though, try narrowing down the two cards that will serve you best. If you're not finding any offers from Chase online, try going in branch and see if they have anything for you. If you're feeling adventurous, apply without a preapproval anyway and see if you get approved. It's just an inquiry at worst.
