I can tell you if I were in your shoes and wanted the cards, yes I'd do exactly as you're describing. Get them before new acct reports and have dual browsers going. Of course your profile will get better with age, but if you're already out of the garden might as well try to get what you want/need.
Don't know how much credibility there is with the 2 browser method since everything is lightning fast and automated nowadays. It's more superstition for meActually, I just use one browser and the phone if CU involved with app spree. Did not make difference, was approved for every card (except cap one does not seem to like me, no HPs though). Double browser method used for Chase apps to try to get single hard pull, or Amex so every card gets its bonus. Otherwise, no need.
This might seem quirky but when I apped DC and Marriott, I had 2 browsers going and hit submit within 1.5 seconds of each other. Since both pulled EX, my thinking was the inqs from each wouldn't be detected by the other ![]()
As an aside, CU really are great. I deal with a VERY small CU so last year when I was talking to the LO about an auto loan she was like "yeah we'll finance it for you, but definitely no credit cards anytime soon". This was when I had maybe 4 or 5 and she thought that was a bunch lol
BofA declined the app:
Unfortunately, we're unable to approve your credit card application at this time.
A letter has been mailed explaining the reasons for our decision which entitles you to a free copy of your credit report.
As a result of our decision, any balance transfer requests included with your credit application will not be processed.
So, go to the backdoor and call BofA?
For the Chase AARP app, maybe I had overlooked the pending message. It was actually a 30-day message. Does that mean there still a hope? What I should do for my situation? See bellow from the email to me:
----------
| Thank you for submitting a credit card application to Chase. | |
| Here's what you can expect next: | |
| We'll let you know of our decision through U.S. mail within the next 30 days. Please don't resubmit this application while waiting for our decision. | |
| If we approve your application, we'll send your card and other important information to you by U.S mail. Once you receive your card, call the number on the sticker right away so you can take advantage of everything your card has to offer. | |
| If we don't approve your application, we'll send you a letter explaining why. | |
Thank you for applying for a Chase credit card |
Update: I just called the auto messager from Chase and the robo lady told me there will be a mail in 2 weeks. A good sign for the AARP?

2 weeks message is good bc it's not a denial. Check back every couple days to see if the status changes. And yes recon your bofa app
When should I recon my BofA app in your mind? I heard a rummor that if I have other apps in review, it is better just not to recon (don't know the reason). On the other hand, if the pending really takes 30 days, a recon for BofA may result with a new HP which shows more INQs and new accounts...
Thank you, TrialByFire.
From my searching and reading, seems there is a 5/24 rule for Chase cards. If the new Citi AA card reports (and it will maybe tomorrow), I will have exact 5 new cards opened in the past 2 years. This may make AARP recon hard -- the recon only needed if I receive a denial from Chase. For BofA, two new openings in the past 2 months may be considered as credit aggressive, this may be the reason I got a denial from BofA (I got inquiries from Citi and Chase before the BofA app). I hope AARP is eventually an approval soon. Otherwise, this seems hard for me to time the recon and seems only one approval is possible in that case.
Anyway, let me wait for the letter from BofA and keep call the robo lady for the updated info of the AARP app. Finger crossed.
