Is it true that my starting credit limit might be higher due to a secure application as i'm in person at the store vs an online credit application?
Lowes, Best Buy, Ashley furniture, any experiences with in store apps and starting credit limits?
Thank you, Look forward to your responses.
I can't specifically recall which stores, but I do know that online apps vs in store apps can change the credit reporting agency that is pulled which may or may not change your mind about applying.
I want to say it's Target.. but they're Equifax for life. I'll update if I remember.
A benefit of applying in store is the store can usually call in to try and get you a higher limit on the spot. Problem is, they expect you to use it then and there if they make the effort.

Lowe's (Synchrony) pulls Experian for in-store apps but they pull TransUnion for apps made from home.

To add, Target is not exclusive to EQ. They have been known to pull TU as well. So, EQ is not "for life"

Anecdotally I’ve heard that you sometimes have better chances of approval in-store in that applying online is anonymous, but a store doesn’t want to embarrass, alienate, or upset someone at the register with money in hand ready to spend.
Not necessarily. There are a ton of store applicants who still get denied regardless. The channel, however can leverage a few opportunities at the point-of-sale. If an applicant meets the criteria for being approved, it would happen regardless of whether it's in-store or via an online application. The store has the advantage of clearing the first hurdle in the verification process. And, as mentioned upthread, some B&M locations may use a different CRA vs the standard channel used online.
I applied for Target Red Card online about 2 years ago and they pulled TU.
I also applied for Kohls and REI (US Bank MC) online and they pulled TU.
