Applied for the citi Rewards+, I done messed up....

So after months and months of patiently waiting (was waiting for a few inqs to fall off and I was waiting to see if the 5x dining first year would come back - which it didn't), I finally pulled the trigger last night.

I should have learned from when I applied for my citi SYW MC last summer when I had my reports frozen.  Well, this time I only had EQ frozen but I had forgotten that I did.  I'm not even to the total bonehead move yet.  So, I filled everything out and hit 'Agree and Submit'.  Well, on the next page, they informed me that my EQ was frozen and gave me a chance to thaw it.  I thought that was pretty cool.  I opened up another window, surfed to Equifax, and thawed (unfroze?) my report.  Or so I thought.  I went back to citi, picked the option "I have thawed my report" and hit the continue button.

On the following screen, I get a message saying something like 'we need to review your application further and we will inform you of our results in 7 - 10 days'.  I was confused why I didn't get an instant approval.  I went back to my EQ web page and noticed at the bottom of the page there was one more button I was supposed to click.  Something like 'You are about to unfreeze your report, click here to continue'.  Doh!

It's only been 15 hours but I have not heard from citi yet.  Oh the suspense!!

Re: Applied for the citi Rewards+, I done messed up....

Have you tried calling to see if a credit analyst can pull in real time assuming that the system doesn't try to re-pull itself. I've had a situation where an app went to pending bc I hadn't unfrozen my Exp. I called in and the analyst helped me in real time and was able to process on the spot. I was anxious to call in but in the cases of pending apps, etc., I think it's worth calling. But regardless, I wish you good luck. Considering it wasn't an outright denial leaves some hope.Give them a call if you hear nothing by the next day.

Yes, thank you.  They said they would process my app and get back to me so I think I will wait for now.  But I may eventually call.

Re: Applied for the citi Rewards+, I done messed up....

Amazing coincidence.....  mrs. ptatohed received a 'pre-selection' (not to be confused with a pre-approval!!) in the US mail today for the Rewards+.  What are the odds of her receiving a mailer the day after I (finally) apply?

Anyway, the mailer is pretty funny.  It tells you that 8 out of 10 people who receive the offer get accepted.  And the killer?  Only a $100 intro bonus compared to the $200 you can get online.

Re: Applied for the citi Rewards+, I done messed up....

Good Luck. I just came off of a mini spree and went 2/4. Citi and Chase were the ones who outright declined me. Chase, well, I'm at 6/24 and tried to sneak in a co-branded card since I already have 2 Chase cards. And then, Citi was the other who rejected me. In the case of Citi, we have a lukewarm relationship. They are one of my banks for basic checking but not my regular savings. I barely keep anything in the acct and use their checking to pay for other cards, etc.  Without having seen the denial letter, my guess could be inquiries and the fact that I over-drafted with them a few times 9-10 years ago. It was an immediate denial. I hope that you get approved especially since it wasn't a denial and the reason they provided seems to allude to further consideration 🙏

Hoping for an approval to come your way 😀

Will she take a stab at the card too? Or perhaps, if you get approved, maybe there's a decent referral bonus/SUB for you both.

Well, we certainly don't need two R+ cards.  I am mainly getting it to amplify my citi DC and CC TYPs by 10%.  And of course the $200 bonus.  And I am intrigued by the 10x roundup, especially for small purchases.  I haven't seen a citi referral bonus on credit cards before other than the checking/savings account I opened with $75k just to get the $1,000 bonus after 21+60 days (already received).  You get $100 per referral.  I'm trying to talk my sister and bro-in-law into it, I told them I'll give them $50, lol.   Even if mrs. ptatohed were to apply (maybe if I get declined?), we would do it online, not using the mailer, for a $200, not $100, bonus.  My credit is otherwise spotless, except for a medical collection showing up only on Experian (744 EX score, low 800s TU and EQ).  My wife is in the 800s all around.

Re: Applied for the citi Rewards+, I done messed up....

There is a web link where you can check the status of your application.  Doesn't tell me much more than I knew other than the hopeful 24 hour tease.  At least it appears they are reviewing my app.  I suspect it is a generic message because it says 7 -10 days but it has already been 2 days (well, ok, 1.5, lol).
