Approval odds for NFCU

Afternoon all,

I'm curious what folks here think of my approval odds for a NFCU cc, mostly thinking of the amex version.  I pre-qualify for all the cards but know that's not reliable...

My current fico 9 TU is sitting at 750

DTI is roughly 21%

Income roughly 48000

Have had a token savings account since Jan. no real activity...

I do have 2 baddies that will be vanishing by Feb 2024...

It's been about 7 months since my last app for anything.

I was really close to pulling the trigger last night but backed out at the submit button!!  I know it's always a YMMV type answer... just curious based on the dp's above..

Thanks in advance as always!

@willmsbrg Go for it! You're profile is stellar compared to when I got approved. Bk reporting at the time, c/o's and late payments from 4 years ago. 🗣️ What are u waiting for!?

Re: Approval odds for NFCU

Something  I forgot mentioning is I do want an Amex card once those last baddies drop away come Feb 2024...

Seems I can never get anything approved with those still hanging around...

I may pull the trigger tomorrow if everyone feels the odds are good...

I think your chances are excellent.

Just to make sure you understand, it's not actually an American Express card. It's a Navy Federal card that uses the Amex payment network. I don't really see any advantage to that particular feature, since the Amex payment network has slightly less acceptance than Visa and Mastercard. I can count on one finger the number of places I've been to that accept Amex but not Visa and Mastercard, but it would take more fingers than I have to count the number of places I've been that accept Visa and Mastercard but not Amex.

Re: Approval odds for NFCU

I was approved for the cash rewards 3700 sl at 18.00 with a 2 year old bk7 on my reports.

Just keep in mind their starting limits are all over the place. I have read posts of people getting as low as a 500 dollar sl.

My second cc with them the platinum had a 1k sl

Not to fret, they grow quickly, ymmv

My cr limit is now 21,700 .        3700 - 21,700

My plat limit is now 9k.               1k - 9k

All in less than 2 years, ymmv

Oh, I know it's not an Amex card just the network....

When I was talking about getting an amex card I'm talking about either the BCE or BCP from Amex itself but I never seem to get approved for that with their prequal tool...  I'm guessing in their case my baddie is keeping me from getting one of their cards. I'll hold off on them till early next year once that baddie drops off my reports.

I've been seeing the same as far as SL's seem for NFCU... some starting with low limits and others higher... I started out with a CAP1 SavorOne with 500.00 then they showed lots of auto love with a 4000.00 increase at 6 months...

I guess I will pull the trigger today and see what happens~~

You can get the card without prequalifying. I wouldn't let that be the determinant.
