FWIW, I also 'second' what others say about using them for banking, i.e. best to avoid.
I've posted elsewhere about my own issues with them years ago (early 2000s) but the short-story is that the service you get seems to be very branch-specific. If I deposited a check from Fidelity at a branch in the suburbs the funds would be available the next day. Depositing a similar check (also from Fidelity) at the downtown branch near my office would result in a 5 day hold every time. (These weren't huge checks, either.)
They had no explanation for the inconsistency other than it was their prerogative; in any case I found it unacceptable. Once they did away with unlimited foreign ATM fee reimbursements I cut them loose (I used them for my primary checking for 10+ years.)
That’s the exact crap that Compass got a nasty reputation for here in Colorado - holding people’s money.
It would take a lot to pry me away from FirstBank for my banking honestly. They’re fantastic and I haven’t had a problem since opening the account in 2012. They don’t make me have a minimum balance (rare for a bank) and the only fee they charge me is $10 a year for my debit card... which now that I am actually using my credit cards, I will probably cancel the debit card as I don’t need it but $10 isn’t a big deal either.
And they have 24/7 customer service where you don’t even have to listen to the IVR - just press 0 and right to a rep here in Colorado ![]()
I think I will be happy with BBVA but I am going to schedule payments early as possible to make sure that part doesn’t have any issues.
