So I decided to apply for this card on 10/22/2015 and I got the message that I would be contact by one of their reps to complete my application. When I didn't hear back from them I decided to call and was told by the rep that the message on the site is out-dated and that they aren't calling people anymore to complete applications. I was told I would receive something in the mail and that it was mailed on 10/26/2015. They couldn't say what was mailed but by the tone of voice it sounded like a denial. I can handle a denial if a decent reason so I figured no big deal.
On 11/2/2015 I received my denial letter stating that they could not verify identifying information and had denied my app. The info I put on the app matches my current EX data for my name, current address, etc. After reading through all the stories from others on myFICO I decided to file a complaint with the cfpb to see if I could have the inquiry removed. I will update this post when I hear back from them.
BBVA pulled EX for me which was 709 at the time.
They seem to be really hit and miss. Very unprofessional.
They are most likely using screening sites like Innovis to cross reference you in addition to the Experian report.
Capital One did that with my DW said her DOB didn't match their data and declined her. EO attempts were just the run around.
Did anyone try going in a Compass branch with the letter to see their response?

I also filed a complaint with the CFPB, and asked to have my inquiry removed. BBVA lied to the CFPB, stating I was probably a victim of fraud, and I should contact the CRA's to report fraud / update information.
Oh, and to add insult to injury, no removal of the HP.
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed on the inquiry removal. I don't mind being denied for legit reasons but this is just ridiculous. What kind of company doesn't even reach out to an applicant to try and verify details they are unsure of?
