BOA decline and Recon Help

I applied and was denied for a new BOA card due to having an account that was declined for a cli. The declined cli was about a year and a half  ago because I got my dates mixed up and hit the link too early but was approved for a cli since then (about 8 months ago). Does anyone have a recent working number to recon or am I stuck mailing in a recon letter. I have serched and all the numbers I have found are no longer working. Thanks in advance

You should be able to get there eventually from the main customer service line. Just be persistent.

Re: BOA decline and Recon Help

Which card was this? Different cards from the same issuer have different standards of approval. I bet there is more to the story than you have written. Being denied a CLi is not a reason for a denial of a new account. What exactly was the reason in the denial letter?

It was the Unlimited Rewards and yes it says the unable to approve because one of your accounts with us and or our affilates have been declined a credit line increase. I have seen a few where able to get a recon with that denial but thats been awhile ago. I spent half the day yesterday calling different phone numbers that I could find and most dont work anymore but when I did get ahold of someone they told me just to send in a recon letter. I just gave up and sent a letter today. If it works great and if not its just a wasted pull. I was only going for it to get one with 0% in case I need it.

Re: BOA decline and Recon Help

Just to provide another data point, I was denied a customized cash reward in September for the same reason. This happened during the time when the recon line still routed to a senior analyst. Unfortunately, they couldn’t override my request even after reviewing my report manually with me on the line. He even acknowledged that everything in my report seemed fine and would approve it if it allowed him to. Only suggestion was to try again another time.

So yes, a new account with BOA can be denied solely for the reason that “one of your accounts with us or our affiliates has been declined a credit line increase.”

Thanks for the input. That lets me know not to waste anymore time on it.  I was just shocked it was for cli decline because it was so long ago and I have been approved for a cli since the denial. I guess I will just chuck it up to a learning experience.

Re: BOA decline and Recon Help

Considering the product I think they might be answering the denial reason backwards. I think the real reason most likely is a mix of two separate reasons.

1. You have as much credit as they are willing to offer at this time.

2. You recently got a credit line increase so do not qualify for more credit at this time.

If you consider what they mash together into that would explain it. I would wait a year and try again since the economy sucks. Or just try a different lender.

I think you're right with your first point.

I'm gonna guess that folks are reading into the statement: "You were denied a CLI, therefore you're denied this card."  Whereas it should probably be read as: "We've given you as much credit as we're willing to give, therefore we're denying you for this card."

Re: BOA decline and Recon Help

Yeah @zerofire  BOA has been the only issue that during the fires in CA were citing to me cant approve CLI or higher intial limit "because of economic trends" which I experienced no personal losses, but many people in my area did and I'll prolly have to sell my land because I feel like it'll always be contaminated. These VOC remediators are jokes.

You used to be able to get to a BOA Sr Analyst who could approve whatever up to about 40k, but now youre lucky to get to a live person.

I suppose this is why folks with education and degrees are now losing jobs (higher unemployment rate currently) and there's a "white collar recession" It's true.
